Don't know - I wasn't there.
I had a work committment with my well paid job that I couldn't get out of. Oh well I suppose that means I must be a part timer, eh. I still stand by my figures. I'll be amazed if there's more than 750 in the Faroes.

there was certainly more than 150 in HK. SK was harder as there was alot of extra cost involved (which is why i didnt go.) I certainly think there is alot more than 500-750 regular and 200 hardcore.

ScottishMagpie, I think your figures are a wee bit under the mark, but who knows for sure anyway, its all guesswork.
I was definately seeing double in Poland and I would have estimated about 1500 there. Willfae, I reckon 150 travelling to HK was about right, I think the numbers were boosted by an few ex-pats out there.
Here's my own estimates of recent games:
Wembley 1999: 7,000
Dublin 2000: 3,000
Latvia 2000: Don't know, wasn't there
San Marino 2000: Don't know wasn't there
Croatia 2000: 3,000
Poland 2001: 1,500
Belgium 2001: 12,000
Paris 2002: 3,500
Hong Kong: 150
Estimates:
Faroe Islands: 750-900
Iceland: 1,200-1,500
Lithuania: 2,000-2,500
Germany: max allocation 6,000?
Oh, and naebody told me the pubs in the Faroes dinnae open until 7.00pm! how do you blag tickets to the Heb Charter Youth Hostel Party ???

as i only went to the wc in 98 and loved it so much ive been hooked ever since i agree with a lot of people in that,A, you can book time off to go away
B it is harder for those of us who work regular weekends ie me a chef to go to the home games and
C those of us living down south and it can cost a lot to travel to glasgow or aberdeen
i like everyone else ime sure on this board would like to go to every game home and away, but you have to draw the line somewhere and also other commitments can already be in place for certain games ie,latvia away family holiday
denmark home away on family holiday
all in all ime sure something will be sorted out but i think the idea of picking up your tickets away ,for smaller games,is a great idea as i know and have heard of people who apply for every ticket going to try and build up a record in the travel clubs eyes
all the best

Reekie,
interesting estimates. Given the disgraceful state we tend to be in at the matches, not too shabby.
You Said: (Our Survey Said)
Wembley 1999: 7,000 (Probably)
Dublin 2000: 3,000 (nearer 5,000)
Latvia 2000: Don't know, wasn't there ( 1200-1400 i'd say)
San Marino 2000: Don't know wasn't there (3000 although 200 are still there waiting for their bus back to Lido Di Jesolo )
Croatia 2000: 3,000 (mibbees)
Poland 2001: 1,500 (aye)
Belgium 2001: 12,000 (nearer 14K-15K with all the extra tickets and additional section being opened)
Paris 2002: 3,500 (never counted, was too busy catching falling bodies in the stand...just glad it wisnae you Reekie )
Hong Kong: 150 (that's just the number of times WESTA5556 told me he was over there!!!)
If we can't remember our hotels/match tickets/ names, what suddenly makes us experts at crowd guessing.
Bring on the newbies, the TA veterans of tomorrow.
They are the future.
And while we are at it lets all chuckle as their 6 packs turn into beer bellies in time honoured Tartan Army fashion

Mines was mair a case of a Tennants Tum turning intae ma beer belly!
I'll be in Dortmund but whether I get a ticket through the ballot, well......................who knows?
I doubt they're goin' tae go tae major efforts tae stop the extra thousands travelling.
One way or the other, I'll be in the march - but maybes headin' for the groond, maybes headin' for a bar.
I've no' missed a game yet, luckily enough, but ma time will come.
(Wisnae at Wembley or Paris '98 in case yer wonderin' how ah've managed that!)
But financial restrictions mean nae Faroes/Iceland fur me so ah cannae complain if ah dinnae get intae the German game.
Fooqit though - ah'll be there in Kaunas, an' maybes Norway or wherever elsewe're playin'. Who cares? Ah'm still part of the TA an' will huv aboot 10,000 other minutes tae enjoy on the trip even if ah miss the worst 90!

Interesting figures and estimates for the various games.
I will not attempt to break all of them down as no one will ever know the true figiures. However I believe that 20 managed to make their way to SK and 200 were in HK. A few ex pats but the majority hard core. as I've posted before not all who are wealthy with lots of holidays. Just people who have made choices in life.
Deny me a ticket an I'll bite your heid aff

The San Marino match was my first, the official crowd was a record for the ground at just over 4500. There were about 100 San Marino punters there so 4400 TA at San Marino. Croatia felt like there was at least that much there, if not more. Couldn't see right across to the other side of the stand but it looked pretty full from where I was standing. I've met people who were in San Marino but not Croatia and vice versa, most seemed to go to both, it should have evened itself out.
1500-2000 is about right for Poland, 12-15000 in Belgium and around 3000 in Paris.

And to your second point, you are not telling me that the clubs are claiming this now too...
Well I never.... Think they should be called to account by TAMB immediately.....

On the sauce again Ruary?
For the record - in HK there were 121 tickets sold through the Travel Club, I heard. Believe it or not, during the South Africa game I tried to count the number of us (it really was that exciting a game!) and gave up at 70 cos I fell asleep and by the time I woke up, some people had moved and left me
But I'd say there was at least another 50 uncounted, or maybe I was just too magoo'd to see straight, let alone add up.

Do not really get your point here Ruary. Are you saying clubs get preferential treatment as regard to tickets?
Hope not!!!
I agree with Scottish Magpie to an extent. The hardcore has increased just lately. It was only 3/4 years ago that the hardcore was about 500.
Denmark
Stockholm
Lithuania
Russia
St.Ettiene
are all examples.
The hardcore has now increased and could be up to 2500 now. That is due to the drug that is the TA, and more and more soldiers are addicted.
There will be alot more arguements over ticket distribution in the future.

Opinionated Wind Bag |
Been reading this thread with interest and have changed my mind form favouring a straight ballot to some form of loyalty scheme (which I ticked on the ticket form) to leaning back towards an open ballot again One thing is certain and that is that there are going to be pissed off people whatever method is used.
One argument I haven't read if a points system is used is the worth of qualifiers as opposed to friendlies. IMHO attendance at home qualifiers against San Marino, The Faroes, Latvia... should count for more than away friendlies in France, Korea, Venus or wherever... The importance of the game should come first.
Don't feel a ticket split between a ballot and loyalty is a goer for the Iceland game due to the minimal amount of tickets in the first place and the complications involved.
I hope that lessons can be learned and perhaps in future the SFA should gauge the demand for each away game in the period between the draw being made and the fixture dates being confirmed, so that allocations could be discussed at the same time as dates are being agreed. I can usually go to about 50% of away games and have opted for Iceland over Faroes this Autumn... if I knew beforehand that I wouldn't get a ticket for iceland, I would certainly have went to the Faroes instead, where tickets shouldn't be a problem.
All in all it's a minefield and a straightforward ballot is the easiest way (don't think there is a fairest way), so would go for that at the moment.
Also feel that the TA is in danger of becoming a bit too clique and elitist where it should be inclusive and encouraging as many people as possible to go to games. I'm sure I read on this board somewhere that there are proposals for an ATAC only section at Hampden?!? Surely this is a joke... right??? Or is it a case of all TA are equal but some are more equal than others...

More Than Words |
min,
TAMB folks will be sitting together and ATAC clubs buy blocks of seats to sit together - there's nothing sinister about it and it isn't elitist.
It's normal to sit with your mates - and since the folk you meet on trips are friends, and the folk you share your club with are friends, we sit together!
We're all free to go on trips and join clubs - there's nothing cliquey or elitist about it.
Everybody is free to join in!!!

"Don't feel a ticket split between a ballot and loyalty is a goer for the Iceland game due to the minimal amount of tickets in the first place and the complications involved. "
Why should it matter how many tickets are involved (in fact the lower the number of tickets/higher the demand the more the argument stacks up IMO) And what additional complications are there with this arrangement anyway.
