GET A LIFE!!!

Bertie could have learnt from this posted on the Korean site days ago. They got it right up until the last sentence.

With just 15 days remaining before the 2002 World Cup kicks off, the Korean national team are to play one of their final warm-up matches on Thursday night when they take on the Scottish national team in Busan.

While Scotland have a strong heritage in the game of football, they have never managed to make it beyond the first round in eight previous World Cup appearances and failed to qualify for the 2002 World Cup after finishing behind Croatia and Belgium in their qualifying group.

Scotland's failure to make it to Korea and Japan prompted the resignation of coach Craig Brown and the Scots have now turned to former German national team coach Berti Vogts to take charge of the team.

Vogts led Germany to the 1996 European Championship title and he is looking to rebuild the Scotland side in time for the 2004 European Championship in Portugal. The German is seeking to alter the team's traditional 'kick and rush' style and for Thursday night's match, he has included six players who have never won caps for Scotland before.

Meanwhile, Korea are expected to test out a 3-4-3 formation against the Scots with Seol Ki-hyeon playing in the centre of the attacking line alongside Lee Chun-soo and Park Ji-sung. Veteran striker Hwang Sun-hong will start on the bench after recently recovering from injury.

Korea team coach Guus Hiddink will also be deploying Yoo Sang-chul as an attacking midfielder, with Kim Nam-il providing cover as defensive midfielder and Lee Eul-yong and Song Chong-gug on the flanks.

Hong Myung-bo, Choi Jin-chul and Kim Tae-young will form the Korean defensive line once again with Kim Byung-ji to start in goal.

Playing against the robust and physical style of the Scots will be a good test for Korea ahead of their World Cup match against group rivals Poland in Busan on June 4.

I reckon the whole point of the Far East tour is that Bertie knew the next few games were likely to go Pete Tong and wanted to still blood younger players while protecting them from being aware of how much they are crucified in the press when it does go pear chaped.

Its early days yet and while we are P'd off just now we will still get indignant when the Daily Ger and S#n get tore into the team in the morra's papers.

When you reach rock bottom the only way is up.

If Berti has learnt anything in his short tenure as our manager perhaps he should persevere with the experiment he tried at Forthbank against Dundee Utd........play all future friendlies behind closed doors and not allow access to tv!!!!!

Chick Young was on the radio this morning from the Journo's bus that was stuck in traffic behind the team bus, some 4 hours before the kick off. He said that all the Journo's were really suffering from jet lag and they commented on what state the team must be in, as they all flew out together.

So if the team were in such a bad way, then maybe, just maybe we have a wee excuse. Other than that I can only confirm that we were s h i t e.

At least we did get a goal from a new cap, so there is some hope.

We nearly won 5 - 4 !

Surely the point of going to the far east as stated before was to get away from the carping media at home and show the younger players that there is a world beyond the British Isles, what a fantastic experience it must be for some of the squad, the atmosphere inside the ground looked incredible, perhaps there is also a subtle message for the squad, that we could have been there playing for real in the worlds biggest tournament, instead these players will have to watch it at home, hopefully that will be a spur to their performances in the Euro 2004 games.

I agree with the tiredness aspect, at the end of a long season and a long flight against a team at home with a real buzz about them it was a hiding to nothing, so predictably, we got a hiding.

I just (optimistically) hope that they will start winning when there is right time for that - starting with Faroes, then Iceland...

Hope never dies

You can real off all the excuses you want but the simple truth of the matter was we made a very average team look like world beaters. There was no fight, spirit or belief of any kind on display and that really is worrying regardless of which 'star players' were missing !?
Berti really does have one hell of a job on his hands ...

That was utter crap. Apart from Mo ross none of the others looked like they wanted to tbe there. I suppose at least we have found a possible goal scorer in Dobie.

The team did look jet-lagged, I'm not saying they were, it's just that they looked like they were.

Otherwise, those two draught stellas worked hard in the first half at 'four in the hand' but the kroninbergs in the second half at the 'cabbage and ribs' were a bit heavy. A mistifying performance and I ended up watchin the post match grolsh on a fine Scottish Summer day in my beer garden. Bliss when yir smugged!

When we get down to the real thing in September & October, and we have our top players back, at least Berti will have  fair idea of which younsters are up to the challenge of being included. The alternative would be trying these guys out in competition.

I honestly believe that some of these players will learn and flourish from this summer, and although some will fall by the wayside that's exactly the point of the exercise.

How many youngsters who might have made the grade thanks to a bit of international experience never got the chance under Craig Brown, who was forever waiting for them to play "champions league" football regularly first?

I'll judge after the Lithuania game.

Overall dissapoiting result.. i was hoping for a point from the korean game, a point? this is friendlies well you know what i mean a draw 1-1 or something, but i just finished watching the game and i'm dissapointed at how bad we perfomed and how shite we actually looked.  We didn't even have any chance on goal, Well done on big dobie for knocking that header in.. and his stats of 1cap 1 goal.... well i really don't know what to expect from the game against south africa,, i suppose a 2-0 defeat doesnt sound that bad.. lol.  Nah we've played the hardest team it's now the 2nd hardest and hoefully just hopefully we'll beat Hong Kong

Let's remember no lambo, mccann, ferguson, burley, hutchy, naysmith, mcnaughton, crainey.  but realstically with the squad we had there we should've have been ripped apart as much as we were as they're were players such as Weir,Dailly,Gemmill, all out on there.  I don't know what to think...

Iceland looks a lot harder now, it's always looked a trickie game but from where i stand i don't even know if we'll make the play-offs. I'm beeing realstic..

Overall though say scotland lose all our nxt friendlies...  3-4 nil but then begin to beat Iceland,Faroes,Lithuanina and of course germany i'll be happpy but i dunno if that'll happen.

It's dissapoiting, but i'm still behind berti's boys..

At one nothing down half way through the first half I took to counting passes..........Scotland would have two or three then give up posession.........the Koreans were knocking it around in 16 or 17 pass movements almost having an attempt at goal at the end every one.....

We were a long way from home.......players missing.........loads of untried youngsters..........BUT........There were experienced players there too and I felt it was they who were the worst.....

Berti MUST get time but we must also KNOW our best side by September and they should at least have played together once.

I think the Danish game will be hugely significant to our chances this time round.......If we have a decent performance against the Danes than I will be filled with the usual optimism.

Let's prey Berti gets it right..................

By the looks of it, the experienced players we had are not really the ones we need to be setting examples for the younger boys. They're all squad players for their teams. Although I'm an Evertonian, Gemmill is w*nk these days.

Was it as bad as the Australia game?
