Seven candidates confirm their bids for UEFA EURO 2008
Detailed bids to be submitted by the end of May
A total of 7 candidates have confirmed their interest in hosting the final tournament of the UEFA European Football Championship - UEFA EURO 2008™. The closing date for confirming their intention to bid was midnight 28 February 2002. The confirmed bidders are:
· Austria and Switzerland
· Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina
· Greece and Turkey
· Hungary
· Nordic 2008 (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, with the support of Iceland and
Faroe Islands)
· Russia
· Scotland and Republic of Ireland
All candidates will participate in an exhibition in Stockholm on 25 April, on the occasion of the UEFA Congress, in order to demonstrate the strength of their bid to the UEFA member
associations, the public and the media. The detailed bidding documents of candidates will have to be submitted to UEFA by 31 May 2002. UEFA will make inspection visits to the bidding countries between mid August and mid October 2002. The decision about the hosting of UEFA EURO 2008™ is scheduled to be taken by the UEFA Executive Committee on 12/13 December 2002. Mike Lee, UEFA's Director of Communications, said:
"We are delighted with the level of interest being shown in the bids to host UEFA EURO 2008 and we wish all the candidates well in their work over the next few months."

Its not the fact that Celtic is the name of a club side that im not exactly fond of, its the fact that when most foreigners think of C(k)eltic they think of ireland, not Scotland.
PS anyone fancy going to sweden to publicise the bid???

After new l@bours recent baffling gaffs would be out of the realms of possibilty that perhaps tony blair has already got some minister e-mailing austria and switzerland confirming a £200m loan for their 2008 bid, whilst getting some little shite in edinburgh to hide it by killing a scottish solo bid and proposing a shambles of a bid with ireland.
i think the bid should be called "it's a conspiracy 2008" - celtic supporters will know the conspiracy subject well - e-mail your point to paranoia@parkhead.com!
