i'm thinking of upgrading to aol broadband. i only use the net for the likes of booking holidays, trains, hotels etc. at the moment i don't have a re-writer or any of those sort of thingies. what's your opinion, is it still worth another £12 a month to do this? at the moment i can get the modem and connection free. come back asap. cheers

you may not do all these things at the moment, but once you get broadband, you'll start to do more things like downloading videos etc.

the internet is much more enjoyable as well.

Hi Danny,

I have braodband at home, and even though ma company pay for it, it is worth every penny.  Web page access is so  much faster, you can use it 24 hours a day if you want for the flat fee, downloads of films, music, etc become a realistic thing, I could go on!

I just couldnae go back to dialup now.  I'm sure there are other TAMBers with BB - what so you think?

Pipex Xtreme 512, Cisco 827 Router, Cisco Aironet 350 AP.  Sweet.

Depends how much yer spending each month Danny.
I was spending more than the £25 my broadband costs so I actually save money.
Couldnae imagine downloading at 56k now. 25 minutes for a wee file?!! Try 2
Also, as already stated, when ye've got 24/7 connection to the net ye would probably use it more.

Eh......ah can gie ye a couple of addresses!
And passwords...... :sssshhhh:

I'm a big fan of broadband - a lot of sites that would take ages to load fly past.

The upcoming NATA TV is being designed with broadband in mind - you can see a preview (which should work with dial-up) here: www.netleyabbeytartanarmy.net/tvpreview.htm

I'm with Pipex - never had a problem, the most popular BB provider in the UK, brilliant speeds, and 19.99 a month (exc VAT)

that sounds like just the deal for me. can you give me some more details, ie (cause i'm a bit thick when it comes to all of this) how much e.mail space do you get compared to hotmail etc. is it easy to change your e. mail address how do you take your address book with you etc. any help would be worth a couple of pints when we next meet. also is it worth while you recommending a new customerrather than me registering myself, would you get anything for it.

Danny,

as I don't use AOL (and never had) I am not sure about moving your address book across...

Hoever, there  is no limit on email space, you get 50Mb of webspace (if you want to build your own site) and 12 email addresses.

Wouldnae help me referring you - company would not accept the free month as I am getting it through ma work.  Anyone else on the TAMB on Pipex?

I could talk you setting up your new email address no probs and Pipex send you a very clear, easy to follow guide on doing it when you sign up.

broadband is the king - i used a 56k connection at the weekend at a mates house and i was going mad.

I had to download drivers for him and it took over an hour!
If it had been at my house i would of made a cup of tea and they would of been sitting waiting for me.

isdn is a dual 56k modem, so i doubt you have it, otherwise you'd be paying double for your internet connection.
