Bruce GET A LIFE!!!     Cable broadband is about the only good thing about NTL.   Certainly the only reason I stay with them now.   And I never had to go through all this pi$h about filters and so on.   Just stuck an ethernet card in the PC and plugged it in the back of the digibox.   Wee bit of software to stick on the machine off a CD and hey presto! Watched a few football games through it in the past at a very high quality (Celtic in Europe before they made it a monthly subscription service rather than pay per game).
