I took the Freeserve Broadband package.  For existing Freeserve customers they have  a deal where you get the Modem and Connection for free, all you pay is the monthly cost of £27.99.

What a difference in browsing, would never go back to the old 56k connection now.  And Downloading? What a difference!  I've been downloading like a Bad-Ass Mo' Fo' for the last week...

Totally agree that once you have broadband you'd never go back to the auld ways.....best thing is my work pays for it too!

A year ago when they shut up shop in Perth it looked like I would have to either find a new job or move to Greenock/Portsmouth.  But they were talked into letting me work from home 4 days a week over broadband (with a day trip to Greenock once a week).....and as a result I still stay in Perth!

Also a bit thick when it comes to things like this.
Do you need to be in a populated area to get broadband?
I stay up in the hills, two miles short from the middle of nowhere - could I get it?

Aye register interest for your exchange.  BT have set 'trigger' levels on all exchanges - if enough people are interested in getting broadband on an exchange they will install the kit.

More info at http://www.adslguide.org.uk - pish forum there tho...

OK, just found out that my local exchange is upgrading to broadband next month, but because I live more than 5.5kms from the exchange I can't get it (its not as if I live in the sticks!).

Can anyone tell me why this is?

It's because the loss of signal quality due to the length of the line.  Look from the summer onwards - you may be in luck as BT are trialling new line lengths for ADSL

awrite ta, broadband is going great. only two problems, when i come onto the message board i am on as a guest. then when i log in and click return to the forums my name disappears again. to post this message i had to register just before posting. the other problem is the micro filters, where and how do i fit them to enable me to use the phone at the same time.
