Fresh ideas

i think the majority would agree scot gemmill will never be the first name on the team sheet, yet hes been picked in 50+squads and started a handful of matches, has he ever played the full 90 min???
I remember when he first came on to the scene he was a promising 21yrs old at notts forest ,broke into the scotland set upand has just  been making up the numbers, with no national manager ever regarding him as a first pick.
I cant believe the loyalty he has shown to the cause, traveling all over the world for the last 10 Years to sit on the bench or in the stand, surely he realises the boat left years ago,but he comes back time again ,misplaced loyalty???
he should do himself a favour and tell berti he's had enough

Free holidays and 30 seconds of fame and he will be remembered for as long as his father.

2 reasons to keep on turning out.

Wouldn't you.

I agree, and I will tell you this boys, if any of us were even lucky enough to be picked in a squad, the last thing I would do if I didn't get a game would be to tell the coach to stuff it. I would be so keen to play that I would even pay my own flight if I had to. Look at the committment of the TA and it makes you realise that being a squad player is an honour.

scott may never be a crowd favourite but he turns up - and does whats asked - 100% of the time.

Anytime some prima donna quits the side or pulls out of a side for no reason, hundreds of folk post to this board saying players should be prepared to walk over hot coals for Scotland - well here's one who clearly is.

A bit of recognition does no harm - so well done Scott, you may make the hall of fame yet.

Hall of fame for turning up,
proves the point in another thread
the hall of fame should be on merit
not on turning up.

Scott Gemmill turns up when selected and is castigated by fans. I have said before and I will say it again, he is not the world's greatest player and I bet he would admit that too. He has survived a few managers at Everton and still gets a regular run out for the first team. One thing for sure is he is a far better player for Scotland than Duncan Ferguson, David Weir or  Richard Gough were because he DOES turn out game after game and has not chucked his dummy out of his pram.
If we got behind players instead of knocking them at every opportunity maybe, just maybe they might rise to the heights and raise their game and put Scotland back where we believe they belong.

Rant ends

Gough refused to play for Scotland at the peak of is career, so as far as I am concerned, he was a waste of space.

Good goal against England though, but then he was a young lad and had not evolved into a prima donna.

good rant E.S .I tend to think Gemmill is a better player than people give him credit for,and I think on a few occasions he has been unfairly treated when it came to selecting some teams that went on the park

But if he is not willing to use that ability for the good of his country then he is as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Be honest Gemmil couldn't pass his water
never mind the ball,
in his last appearances he was a bigger threat to our defence than the opposition,
yes he has talent I just wish he wouls show it.

I've never been able to see how Gemmill can hold down a first team place at Everton (only having seen him at Scotland games).

He was rubbish when he came on v Canada.  Terrible first touch, rubbish passing and continually being caught on the ball.

I reckon he knows the pressure is on to prove he deserves to be in the squad so he gets anxious and plays c**p.

If any of us got picked to play for Scotland what would we do?

Thank god for the opportunity to wear the shirt with pride and give 110%? Or say no thanks - I'm not good enough.

Scott Gemmill might not be the best player available, but loyalty deserves support - not criticism. If you don't think he's good enough criticise the managers that keep picking him. Goanyersel Scott! Score the winner for us in Dortmund and shut them all up!!!

THe vast majority of the TA say that players should show exactly the sort of commitment which Gemmils shows towards Scotland.

Is anyone on this thread saying that Gemmils behaviour has been aything less than exemplary for Scotland ? Is soemoen seriously suggesting he should jack it in off his own bat coz hes not good enough ?

Can anyone think of another player in the current set up who can celarly demonstrate that level of commitment over that number of years.

As for the Richard Gough point I dont think anyone is syaing he wasnt a great player Hawkeye, but his commitment to Scotland ended the day he signed for Rangers - he shoudl have been our most capped player but barely got 70 caps in the end.

That Gemmil plays (or played) in the same Everton set up as Gough Wier and Ferguson only adds to the argument that if we had 22 players with this level of commitment then wed be better off than we currently are.
