Sitting in the pub this afternoon talking about where to sit at the Germany game - Two of my mates were arguing about whether to sit in the 'Rangers end' or the 'Celtic end'.
Is it just me or does anyone else find it ridiculous that our national stadium has a Rangers end and a Celtic end.
I can remember going to my first scotland game many years ago and being confused when I was given a ticket for the rangers end at a Scotland V Argentina game.
The Old Firm should have no natural ownership of areas of a stadium that does not belong to them.  Any ideas of Celtic fans walking from the east of the city are dated and do not apply any more.
Its time that the stands behind the goals lose these ancient tags and that supporters going to scotland games are all seated in the 'Scotland end'.
This process should begin with Rangers fans being seated in the east side of the stadium for the Scottish cup final.

Anyone else agree?

ahm talking about ROTATING the ends not getting rid of segregation

Old firm 'traditions' have no place in a NATIONAL stadium  - I  just dont see why people should refer to a Celtic or Rangers end at a scotland game

I can understand the traditional bit when Celtic play Rangers there but why should Dundee, for example have to sit in the West stands tomorrow and providing they win, be shifted to the East stands for the final just cos it's traditionally the Rangers end?

Thats a load of crap and some traditions should end or should i take that old woman who stays at the end of my street and burn her just cos i think she's a witch?

Oh f**k grow up, over the last 100 years it meant Celtic normally got the 'east stand' cause that's the end best placed for the direction their fans came from, and the same went for the huns.
As HR says, generally the two of them were involved in finals so the names of the ends stuck.  I remember all the finals we were in from 1978 onwards and we spoke about the Celtic and Rangers ends - no big deal (apart from the fact with the Celtic end having no roof  - hence noise wasn't so loud and therefore another example of pro Rangers bias from the SFA (one for the tims there )

Let's face it, when Rangers play Dundee or Caley in the final there will be a fair proportion of Gers fans in the Celtic End.

Don't really see the point of changing the tradition but then I'm a traditionalist. Why the need to change anything now that the stadium is all covered?? (previously the ends were allocated because those from the east end could benefit from a shower - only joking!!!!).

I am however prepared to make the consession to move if they bulldoze the pit and start having the cup final at Murrayfield - then I'll be happy to sit in the Hearts end.

Thank you for some rationality MCTEAGLE
you forgot to say when it rained the tims got soaked
and if Rangers scored you couldn't see the game  for dust and it took about five minutes till all the dust settled.

Wise words.  Probably doesn't happen at the San Siro, Bernabeu, Amsterdam Arena, or in fact any other country where they don't have two teams called Rangers and Celtic.

I have always talked about the ends being Celtic/Rangers never really seen what the fuss is.

What I want to know is, why is the Celtic end called the East Stand was it not renamed in honour of Jock Stein a number of years ago? I know it was when it was terracing, but so what a total disgrace IMO.

Are you sure your not thinking of the Jock Stein end at Parkhead?

That end of Parkhead wasn't named for Stein until it's renovation was complete in the 98-99 season. Hampden's Stein has been referred to as such for much longer.

Calling the West/East stands the Rangers/Celtic ends is an anachronism. (To save you looking up a dictionary this means a thing of the past which is out of place nowadays).

It's absolutely ludicrous that the East or West stands should somehow relate to the geographical location of where particular teams fans come from - 'cos everyone knows that all these glory hunting tims and huns basically come from everywhere!!!!!!

Unfortunately the 'Celtic end ' and 'Rangers end' have become generic names for the different terracings at Hampden.
Although it has become 'tradition' for Old Firm fans to sit at their own ends (haha), it's probably one of these ingrained Scottish traditions that could do with changing.
A bit like the one that made Scotland the only country in football where a cup final re-defined the word 'neutral'...in that a 'neutral' venue was no longer a 'neutral' venue, and one club (depending one who they were), somehow had an automatic right to 75% of the tickets for this 'neutral' game, and an automatic right to sit in a certain part of the stadium.
It's all a small part of the anarchiac and small minded organisation that runs Scottish football, and makes it the most narrow minded and tin-pot football organisation this side of the Pacos, wherever the fuq they are !!!

(I apologise for having a bit of a scoop and offending those on this board who feel Scottish football shouldn't be run for the equal benefit of all... )
