can someone please answer this question this has happened twice to me now once with william wallace and today with another tamb member emails are getting sent out with no content but with my email address attached so it looks like i have sent the email i have never sent an email to any tamber and i am very concerned that my email address is being sent out to people i dont know and how someone can get access to my hotmail account answers needed now

I've had the same macqueen - someone replied to the 'email' I sent out.
Some people can 'harvest' email addresses and use them to send fake emails.
I thought it was just a mistake when I saw it, but obviously something is going on.
BTW - I do not have a virus on my machine so it cannae be that. It is a work laptop and we I am running top of the range, lastest updated, anti-virus software and I should know - I handle all the anti-virus stuff in our corporation.
I'll have a nosey about and see if I can find out what is happening - if I find anything I will let you know.

Probably stating the obvious here but have you run a virus check? Last virus I got did something not unlike what you describe - picks from your address book and sometimes what is stored from email circulated to loads of ppl you don`t even know!

the only people who are receiving emails are tamb members and i can verify it is not a virus as i had to use a recovery disk today to return my computer to factory settings and this procces clears everything on yer computer and a email was still sent out

It's virus, believe or not. Maybe not on your PC but definitely on some of the people you corespond with. Its name - W32.Klez.E@mm
Still don't believe? Read on: Because this worm does use a randomly chosen address that it finds on an infected computer as the "From:" address, numerous cases have been reported in which users of uninfected computers receive complaints that they have sent an infected message to someone else.

i keep getting laods of emails with that virus. I just delete them. Luckily my norton anti virus is good and picks it up.

albagubrath can you explain to me why emails have only been sent to members of tamb board ? i have 12 close friends on my msn messenger but none have recieved these daft emails only tamb members i have norton anti virus installed on my computer and have never had a virus if me ta ealing william wallace and another tamber called lorne fae manchester and i suspect there may be more and these emails are only being sent to other tambers can you explain this bearing in mind i have never sent a email to anybody on the tartan army message board

Macqueen, it probably isn't you that's infected.
This type of virus uses a name from the infected PCs address book as the senders address to disguise where it comes from.
Based on an infection we had to deal with at work recently it sends messages out 2 or 3 times a day. It took us a whole day to track the source back by checking the message headers and IP info. When we tracked it down the guy hadn't a clue he was infected just said his machine had been slow for a day or 2.
He was an idependent consultant working from home but nearly all the virus messages had been sent out in the name of a senior manager at one of the big local factories.

No, I can't explain. But it's not part of a conspiracy. 
There are people who more-less explained this virus here but also if you read that page from the symantec link it would be enough self-explanatory.

i got a virius sent from mac mirza so i opened it it said urgent and i know who it was from and i got the klez h@mm virus downloaded somethink from anti norton and it cleared it but be careful can ruin your computer

Ive had 2/3 myself,when you open them theres nothing there,try pcpitstop.com,it does a whole test on your system,and gives it a grading at the end.

Gordon JJ received an e-mail from me - which I didn't send. (A couple of months ago). It contained a virus and crashed his pc.
The IT folk at my work thought that a hacker had picked up my e-mail address from the TAMB and used it to send a virus to Gordon JJ - so he would recognise the "sender" and open it.
My work pc and home pc were both 'clean', and I definitely did not send the e-mail.

Folks, the point is:
Person A has 'clean' computer and emails person B.
Person B has his computer infected *from someone else) and it is the virus on his PC which sends an email to Person C.
Person C receives an infected email 'sent' by Person A (but it is only name of Person A while it is email address of Person B).
I know this is not in accordance what we were taught in mathematics lectures at school, but obviously this virus does not care about mathematics!
And should I move this to AOB?
ps Golden rule - never run any of these file extensions on your PC received by email - exe, bat, com, scr, pif and a few more.

I got that virus as well. Stupidly when the email i opened it and when i done a virus check with McAfee it said i had the Klez virus. The problem is that is goes stright onto you Restore System folder abd cant be deleted without some tinkering on your Pc. I have had the virus for about a month but didnt realise to this morning that i still had it. I doubt very much that it is my fault as I havent sent any emails from Outlook express where this worms operates. The worms activates itself evey 8 hours then duplicates. Hopefully now my PC is clean.

i know what you are saying albagubrath but what i am concerned about is that it is coming from somewhere or somone on tamb board if it is not traced then how long will it be before the whole of tamb is infected also a lot of people on this board have there emails displayed in there profile including myself in theory it is the perfect oppurtunity for someone who had a grudge or hated us and had pc knowledge to cause mayhem on this board (maybe this may sound paranoid and i have only limited knowledge of pc,s ) but i would like it clarified that this is impossible and could not happen if it could we have a wee problem on our hands

Well, an advice for anyone who is not so capable to 'fight' with this virus - get the latest IE update from Microsoft web site and in that way you will patch this IE 'security hole' vulnerability.
Macqueen, good concern. Another rule, this one for e-mail address, especially if you display it in any profile or anywhere on the web - Have at least one free web-based email account! You can check that one not as often as your 'original' one but it will protect the 'original' one from spam emails, missuse or virus attacks.
But before anything else - protect yourself with good antivirus software and fairly often updates (since your antivirus is nothing without updates).
