Something to say

I've already altered my profile and since we all have access to the messenger its maybe a good idea to use that first as an initial contact and then email details can be exchanged this way?? I'm no techie-heid, so I dont know if this would help or not.

its bizarre to say the least

WW,
Last email sounds EXTREMELY dodgy.
This is the type of stuff that has a virus.
Delete asap, empty deleted folder and do virus check asap

By the way, these emails are large despite there being no attachments and only a few words, if any at all. That one was 134k, the one from TOAS was 143k, and the one from maqueen was 107k, the latter two were completely blank except from the subject.

I suspect that it is just some amateur having a go at making his own virus but as far as I can see it doesnae affect your computer. What I would be more worried about is how this guy got our addresses because usually viruses spread by seding the email to everyone in your address book but this doesnae seem to be the case. It's possible that they just came on and looked at profiles but is there any chance that somebody could access a list of members addresses?

I'm gonnae print them all out, then I'll delete them Fringo.

I'd delete asap.
There is probably a vbs script in there which wroms into your PC (hence file size).
It only needs one email address to go through one address book and send to another, and dooes the same again , spreading very quickly.

Another wee tip (once you have your virus checker installed and set up the signature updater to run automatically) is NOT touse Outlook Express as your email client.

A lot of these virus depend on you using this client to determine who to start sending messages to....

Anyone having problems with Klez virus should read about that whether in this topic or somewhere on the web. Again, this is not related specifically to TAMBers.

Good point perthTam - I use Eudora Light as email client. All the others who use Outlook Express, download the security patch which disables attachemnts like Klez virus to autorun. In that way, you will be safe until the next one (virus) comes in.

It's simply that many hackers do not like Microsoft.
