it has to be fos, as janco said at the start of this thread stb was written as a bit of a piss take, as for singing in time I remember a few years ago when playing fos that there was no bass drum and we were totally all over the place, now there is a bass drum we are just all over the place
p.s
the new strip is shit hot and it's great seeing the number of kids running about the streets with it on, at least it isnae an ebgland shirt wi Beckham on the backs they're wearin (pink nail polish wearin poof)

Flower of Scotland everytime, the words are perfect, the tune is perfect and it's far better than that dour pish they have to sing in England. God save the Queen? It sounds more like they're mourning the death of her. Flower of Scotland both celebrates our past and looks to the future, it's certainly more forward looking than backward. Whatever some people think, history is still relevant anyway. Saying that, both Scotland The Brave and Scots Wha Hae are great tunes, but I think we should stick with what we've got but play some of the other ones before th game and at half-time etc.

Absolutely spot on.
as much as I love Scotland the Brave and also I know the lyrics, I feel that Flower of Scotland is more relevant, and it sounds very good,
the problem is, Hampden only play 2 verses of it, the 1st, and the last if i remember right, they should play the full 3 plus the start verses. and instead of a piano playing it, it should be bagpipes with a microphone near them so we can all hear them very loud!
cheers

Aye, the PA system at Hampden is shite, if yis remember the PA at Stade De France you'll laugh...
we need a pipe band and maybe 3 or 4 vocalists singing... get the fowks behind it and have a drum beat that we can hear too stay in time!
otherwise it is embarassing...
"And fought against him... tae think again...... ""against him... tae think again"...
Anybody know anyone at Hampden who can sort this crap oot... its either that or we need 150 pipers and 70 drummers and a choral choir of 8,000 to make themselves heard and followed!!!

actually, the P.A. system at Hampden is really good, when i was at the Rangers games at hampden last season they had the big P.A's next to the pitch as well as the ones on the roof, and they were very loud!
cheers

Ye can never hear FOS wherever its played home or away. At least at home you know its always first away from home it takes until 4 lines intae the song before everyone realises its our anthem!

Although I like Scotland the Brave, every time I hear Flower of Scotland, the hairs on the back o' ma neck stand up and a get a lump in ma throat.
Got to be FoS for me every time.
Got to admit though, would be better if we could all sing in time.
Was at Murrayfield for the Barbarians game, and it sounded a lot better there than it ever has at Hampden.
Sort oot the PA system at Hampden.......................................................................................................PLEASE.

Cove Sheep,
I have to say I don't agree with binning the auld mannies - when they're there they keep the rest of the crowd in sinc with the band - like some others have mentioned here, on other occassions the crowd sing at a faster pace. The problem is we don't leave enough of a pause between the "your like again" and "that fought and died" - so we're half a line ahead.
I love Flower of Scotland, but I look forward to the day when it's irrelevant - no point singing about rising to be a nation again when you already are one. At this point I think the anthem should become "Scotland Forever":-
Days are gone, oh my land, my home
When our Fathers fought to be free
Now we have our say, we will lead the way
Once more, oh Scotland forever.
Proud and brave, oh our fathers gave
For the right to think as we do
And in freedom's name, we would stand again
Once more, oh Scotland forever
High above, o'er the land I love
Is the flag that is dearest to me
Let the banners fly, 'neath the Scottish sky
Once more, oh Scotland forever
Days are gone, oh my land, my home
But the memories still they remain
And I'm proud to be in land that's free
Once more, oh Scotland forever
Best lyric I've ever heard.

Out of the two, I'd have FoS any day although I do think it can sound like too much of a lemant sometimes. But give me 'Freedom come aw Ye' by Hamish Henderson - that's the best contender by a mile.

Here's the words:
Roch the wind in the clear day dawin'
Blaws the cloods heelster-gowdie o'er the bay
But there's mair nor a roch wind blawin'
Through the great glen o' the world the day
It's a thocht that would gar oor rottans
A' thae rogues that gang gallus, fresh and gay
Tak' the road tae seek ither loanin's
Their ill ploys tae sport and play
Nae mair will oor bonnie callants
Mairch tae war when the braggarts croosely craw
Nor wee weans frae pitheid and clachan
Mourn the ships sailin' doon the Broomielaw
Broken faim'lies in lands we've harried
Will curse Scotland the brave nae mair, nae mair
Black and white, ane til th' ither married
Mak' the vile barracks o' their maisters bare
So, cam' all ye at hame wi' freedom
Never heed whit the hoodies croak for doom
In your hoose a' the bairns o' Adam
Will find breid, barley bree an' painted room
When MacLean meets wi' freens in Springburn
A' the roses and geans will turn tae bloom
And a black boy frae yont Nyanga
Dings the fell gallows o' the burghers doon
Roch the wind in the clear day dawin'
Blaws the cloods heelster-gowdie o'er the bay
But there's mair nor a roch wind blawin'
Through the great glen o' the world the day.

FOS everytime, hairs all over standing to attention wi that one. Although we are never in time or together when we belt it oot.
Agree wi Bzzzz, aboot the PA system it is complete pish. The last time it was any good was at halftime against E*****d in '99. The E*****d fans I know there didn't what was going on wi the singing and the bouncing. The rest of the time you cannae hear it.... either that or I'm goin deef.

Tartan Sheep,
Aye, I've got it somewhere, but on tape - I'll let you have details as soon as I find it. It's a bonny tune as well.

spud the piper

Fresh ideas |
well,i think i should have a wee say in the matter, since everyone else is !!
Some folk say,FOS should'nt be played on the pipes, some do....if you want my opinion, here it is.......every time i'm overseas wi the TA and play my pipes, daftly like i do,drunkly like i do..i can play STB and get a good reception at any time of day or night, but when i play,FOS,the roof lifts off,cos of the simple reason, everyone knows it's our national anthem and also they know most of the words....i hope no to have offended anyone, see you all soon
