Was at Champions League final at Hampden and the PA was clear as a bell. Don't know if it's been upgraded permanently or if it was a temporary boost.

well,i think i should have a wee say in the matter, since everyone else is !!
Some folk say,FOS should'nt be played on the pipes, some do....if you want my opinion, here it is.......every time i'm overseas wi the TA and play my pipes, daftly like i do,drunkly like i do..i can play STB and get a good reception at any time of day or night, but when i play,FOS,the roof lifts off,cos of the simple reason, everyone knows it's our national anthem and also they know most of the words....i hope no to have offended anyone, see you all soon
Fair play Spud, ah' know that works! Aw a wiz sayin' tho is that feckin' note oan the "tae think again" bit doesnae sound right oan the pipes (ah think the pipes huv tae make that note sharp). Really thought, a don't give a fuq who plays it, as long as it's played!

It would be nice if we could actually all sing FOS together, in tune and with the band as we always seem to have at least three seperate `choirs` going at the same time.
At Murrayfield we always seem to get it as one........but they always `play it in `first so you know when to start singing, surely we can manage the same at Hampden.

It has to be FOS as thats the best we have at the moment, although I do wish we had something a bit more upbeat, like the Italian, French or even the Brazilian National Anthem, I bet everyone was whistling along to them during the WC ! I think FOS is one of the few anthems that can be played a different speeds which does confuse things! I do think that if/when we get Independence, a new National Anthem should be written to celebrate this.
By the way, did you know that the Liechtenstein National Anthem has the same tune as GSTQ? and who is in Englands group for Euro2004? that'll confuse the bastar*s

I always think it was kind of ironic; you'd see the opposing team's National Anthem being played out in 24-bit digital surround sound, then "Scotland The Brave" would come across as if it had been played on a 1960's Dansette, with the record picked up for 10p at The Barras.
And it sounded fantastic! You'd see the players smirking - not out of disrespect, but of the whole irony of it. It's a rabble rousing tune and always will be. LET'S HAVE IT BACK!

As much as STB is a rousing tune it's all Loch Ness tea towels and Shortbread tins as far as I'm concerned. Play it at Hampden and the crowd are happy to join in i.e. 'da da da ra ra ra ra ra, da da da ra ra ra ra, da dada ra ra ra ra, Scotlaaaand the Brave'. Makes a whole mockery of the national anthem. Surely we want the opposition to see us belt out our anthem with pride and passion and everyone knowing the words. I had to endure GSTQ for years at matches and it was booed by the vast majority of TA, never thought it was great encouragement for the team to hear the crowd booing before the match even started. FOS maybe isn't the greatest anthem ever written but everybody knows the words and I think it should be kept.

I dont really like STB or FOS.
STB is comical, but hardly qualifies as a national anthem.
In a similar vein,Flower of Scotland is well known, and the lyrics are easily remembered. But let's face it-it's no more than a patriotic pub song.
I want a national anthem that demands respect.I want to see people shooting out of their chairs to stand up for it.And I want it to BE RECOGNISED as our national anthem.Scotland Will Flourish is excellent, and it tells the world what we are all about.Social justice and decency.
I liked the idea of Scotland Forever too,but the version I have is sung in a Sid Devine country/western style!
Flower of Scotland is a great folk song, but I want something more. And I wish we could all agree on something, and give it real respect, instead of belting it out pissed on the way home from the pub.
The SNP heavily favour "Scots wha' Hae",but that's a bit depressing, and old fashioned for me.
FOS asks us to be a nation, but it doesn't say why we ARE a nation.
My vote goes to "Scotland will flourish".
On the subject of voting, isn't it time we had a televised election,to decide once and for all what we'd prefer? With some famous singers, and maybe a few promotional videos?? Maybe a panel to discuss the lyrics and significance of the songs.
Is this such a stupid idea?
We could repeat the programme a few times, and have a phone poll.
Democracy in action.
There are so many to chose from, and lots of them are much better than Flower of Scotland.

Living down in E******shire for the last few years,
whenever I hear either FOS or STB, in fact any tune,
especially pipe numbers my chest swells and I'm
burstin wi' pride and on the odd drunken occasion
close to tears!!!
The main thing is making sure everyone knows the words - things like the songbook could be the way forward, but i cannae see folk at the gemmes singing out their wee book! Most are too pi***d to read ...
Maybe on one o' the websites or the board a thread could be started with all the songs and various lyrics.
A' the best

FoS b4 StB definitely. By the way, I quite like Flower of Scotland being played on the guitar as the Corries did on their 'Strings and Things' album. Think it sounds better than on the pipes. Kind of in agreement wi MethilStevie about it being more of a folk song rather than a national anthem but until we replace it, FoS should be the one.
On the question of national anthem perhaps a classical piece would be more suitable like the German one which to my mind is excellent. Can't think of one though at the moment.
