GET A LIFE!!!

i posted a thread on foot ie football forum an irish forum not to different from our own tamb  about euro2008 i have only had one response in 24 hours but many will be watching world cup and partying there win lucky bastards but here is what 1 supporter has to say        big thumbs down actuallly had that emoticon

this is the post an ireland supporter called pete posted not too promising

(((((((((((((((Personally i'm not too pushed about the bid at all. This has nothing to do with a joint bid but mainly because usually a country has a reason for hosting a championship.

I think the SFA are keen to use the championship to get some cash to upgrade their club stadia & give the local game a boost. The irish part of the bid IMO is mainly being pushed by our Taoiseachs (Prime Minister) ego. Holding a few euro 2008 games in Ireland will do absolutely nothing for irish football at the moment. We may be ready for it in the future but 2008 is too soon.

I'm sure some of the irish stadia controversy news has been making scotland & you may be aware its 2 from 3 stadia.
- Croke Park owned by the GAA & unlikely to be given over.
- Lansdowne Rd put down for redevelopment in the bif before the government even asked the rugby authorities.
- National Stadium not even built mainly due to enormous projected cost.

Good luck to Scotland in their bid but because ireland is part of i'd personally prefer it not suceed at this time.)))))))))))))))))))))

But this could be our last opportunity for who knows how long, okay, we could bid for 2012 or 2016 but apart from it being way into the future we don't have any idea what other bidders we could be up against. I just think we should grab this opportunity with both hands because it could be our last.

Hopefully after the World Cup there'll be a warmer response to it. The more I think about it, the more I think that our bid is (even jointly) the best one. The Irish fans seem to be making a lot of friends in Japan which can only help.
I think we need to keep posting on their website to make sure they know what a great ting it would be to get 2008. At the minute, nae doubt, their minds are on other things.

(A side issue - at the game today there was an irish flag saying 'Probably the best fans in the world'. Aye, but no quite 'officially, eh? )

Although they have more on their minds and the moment, I don't think that the Irish folk want to be a bit part player in the tournament.

It seems to me that Ahern just wants to build his new stadium and this competition is his ideal opportunity to get it rushed through.

I'd love to see the tournament come to Ireland, but mainly because it would mean we would have to get a soccer stadium at long last.

Macqueen, Casegrande proved my point that Irish folk are not really too interested in euro2008, rather that the just want their own national stadium on the back of the championships.

If our bid for 2008 is an non entity, the momentum that has gathered so far will still mean that their new stadium will still be built.

Its footie fever in Ireland the now - no matter what happens to them their progress into the last 16 will leave its mark for months to come.  The bids will be decided on before Xmas therfore that wave of enthusiasm that is now gripping them should last long enough for the bid to get as much support in Ireland as it was ever likely to get.  It can only enhance Bertis plans for new stadia.  Whatever the reasons for wanting it I dont care as long as they do.

yes i see that but surely the positives for hosting this championship far outweigh the negatives for both countries in fact i cannot think of any negatives?

Just posted myself, it's a shame but there seems to be a negative vibe about it over their. I am sure with a bit of work we could have everyone working together.

Obviously getting it in 2008 is the ambition. But there is no reason why we couldn't put a solo bid if it failed for 2012 and 2016. The pash being talked about aw the big countries being awarded it then is rubbish. Portugal beat Spain for 2004. If it fails then we should go solo for 2012. And win it. As we should have done this time. But that's all in the past now.

But of course we go for this one first and try tae win it too.

I tried sometime back to get some positve response from Irish fans on various sites and spectacularly failed.

As has been said on this thread the only thing they care about is getting a national stadium out of it.

And to all those who feel there are close links between us i can say from my experiences (including having an Irish mother) they do not think we are any different from any other country and all they care about is Ireland and there is nothing wrong with that. I think we are like the Americans here in that we feel an affinity with the Irish which is not reciprocated unless it benefits them in some way. They look out for number one and good luck to them I wish we were more like them sometime.

I agree Lamia. Early responses that I got were that they thought the Irish shouldnae be involved and the Scots should have done it themselves, almost as if they couldnae believe we weren't going for it alone (much like a lot of us felt).

The worst thing about going cap in hand to ask them to help us out in hosting it was the reinforcement of this 'we're not good enough to do it ourselves' mentality by U Know Hoo. The Irish would never have done that.

There seems to be a lot of support for it at higher levels - I imagine Bertie Ahern wants Stadium Ireland and 2008 is a (2b) sure way of getting it - but amongst the fans, they don't seem to bothered about it.

Mibbe they're still on a World Cup high so they might get more interested in the future. One things definite, we need 2008 more than they do so most of the publicity etc is gaunnae have  to come from us.

They don't seem tae gie a sh*te aboot it. This was our project that captured the minds of the TA alone not the TA and 0the Irish fans. And in terms of pushing it, it's gaunnae be the TA that will market it. They may well be considering a future solo bid if it fails. The stadium is what interests them.

There is no way that they could ever make a single bid. They are struggling to get the facilities for our joint bid although big Bertie Ahearn is working hard at it.

They may persuade gaelic fitba to give some of their stadia to them. Gaelic fitba is nationalist and if it was a north-south all Ireland bid they may be persuaded.

As someone said we Irish are just about getting over our involvement in the World Cup.

There is a new Irish government being formed at the moment and enen THAT is not getting press! So I wouldn't be too disappointed by the lack of hype here.

It IS starting to make the news now though and I'm sure when the World Cup is over and the bread and butter of League games and European qualifiers get under way again, there will be a better reaction.

Personally, I'd love to see Euro 2008 in Ireland and Scotland, and not just because of the fact that we'd get a National Stadium out of it.

BTW I love Brazil!
