The fact is that the bid will go ahead.
Every Scot should get behind it now, 100%.
We are bidding whether you like it or not or whether you think we will get it or not.
New official T-shirts will be out soon and a few new banners. You will find after the WC that the campaigning will start big time. Get behind it now.
Buy the T-shirts and support the bid.

I'm not gonnie say "I don't want it." I may also point out some facts so that people will know what they are getting into when deciding whether or not to back it.
What needs to be done, in respect of the bid, to demonstrate that you are a proper 100% "Scot" ?
Facts will persuade fowks better than blackmail Tam -don't you think?

I find blackmail works better
So when you say support, you actually mean by NOT saying anything negative about the bid, except when you think its in the public interest for people to know your opinion?
With that kind of support.........
You have put a lot of opinion on here Sonny, and not a lot of facts.
So does that mean we will only see facts from now on?
See the Champions league final, see 2008, it'll be like that. Magic.
Remember going to the U16 World Cup matches in '89 all over Scotland? The Atmosphere...the excitement.
Magic.
But hey, I like to look at things from a footballing and party viewpoint.
Cheers,
Tam

Something to say |
i myself cant wait to see if we get it. because:
A: we will automatically be in the championships
B: party atmosphere with other nations
C: a chance for the world to see scotland at its best.
so im with you tam lets all get behind this bid.

Ok Tam,
I do think that a frank assessment of our chances would help. Otherwise fowks like me get indigestion. I've posted articles which have counterbalanced sugersweet articles which have been posted by others in order to keep the collective heid.
To be honest Tam, I would have been against 2008 had I not asked myself this question: Would I boycott the tournament? The answer has to be no cause of the party and atmosphere etc.
I also look at things from the point of view of the dignity of the nation and my compatriots on the TAMB and think that sober reflection on what has happened till now can only temper enthusiasm. A big change of heart on this topic will be when the bid is won and you can't really blame fowks for that eh? A bit of honesty now and come the day when the bid is won you'll have a harvest...
Like I said, a balanced diet of information would bring dividends. Think about that for a while and advise fellow proponents not to expect wide acclaim by employing loyalty tests.

I want 2008 in Scotland and I'll buy the t-shirt etc. This needn't be presented as those for and against the bid.
I'd like to see some answers on the logistics of our bid - real answers - like the 5,000 first class hotel rooms needed for each team or the travel nightmare between Scotland and Ireland coz of the last group rule (discussed in the other thread).
Are there any plans to meet with the bid organisers (McConnell, Lyons, Irish govt view) to discuss our fears for this bid and their proposed solutions (which they better hae or we've nae chance)?
Keen to hear yer views.

See ye've just posted the answer on the other thread. That's good news. Discussions on internal transport within Scotland and accommodation seem to me to be other key issues.
Would be nice to know what kind of detail a bid has to entail. I'd have thought that the bid would have to cover issues like that. I wonder if we could get some info on what information they actually have to answer for the bid. Do they have to say where there gaunnae put folk up for example or just some vague promise?
But that's hopeful Tam.
cheers

weejohn - is there anything else we can do to support the bid? Is there any plans for a rally or something like the one there was for the proposed solo bid? Everyone should get behind this bid so we can show the world and Jack McConnell that we are capable of holding a major event. The prospect of having people from all over the world, in Scotland for a few weeks is great, the atmosphere would be like at the Champs final, but eight times better.

As I understand things the bid will be submitted on 29 May - then we'll all get a chance to see it. It will be presented to UEFA in mid Jun in Switzerland. After that the UEFA congress will visit Scotland in September and thats our chance to host them, show them what we have and how we feel about it. Decision by the end of the year. Other big opportunity for us is in Iceland with the Icelandic bloke on the committee. A good showing there will do no harm. 2008 may seem lightyears away but the decision will be made before we buy our chrissie presents so anything and everything has to be done in the next 4-5 months - no long at all. The ATAC crew seem to be well informed through the SFA so they should know more about planned advertising and events to support it.

I can understand the need for answers on specific questions, believe me, those of us whom have been Campaigning since June 2000 on the http://www.Scotland2008.org/ website have been the most critical, and most gutted when the single option was canned.
There is a lot of perceived problems and a lot of rumour and misinformation going around. Not deliberate, just misinformed.
For instance, the 5000 x 5 Star rooms for instance is a lot of p*sh.
This is NOT a requirement for the bid criteria.
Its a certain number of rooms within a certain distance/travelling time of each stadia, and an overall number.
Please keep in mind that the Edinburgh festival handles half a million visitors every year.
We can handle the accomodation and (internal) transport issues nae problem. (Scotland/Ireland travel issues have been answered in another thread by John Henderson from the SFA)
If there are any concise, burning questions you REALLY GOTTA HAVE ANSWERED in the next couple of weeks before seeing the bid document, then let me know.
If its trivial p*sh, I will tell you and not waste people's valuable time, but if its a belter then I will ask.
If you are already an member of an ATAC club, please ask your ATAC rep to bring up any questions at the next ATAC meeting in June, as I dinnae want to be stepping on any of my brothers toes

Thanks John and Tam for bringing back some optimism, at least to me!
Anyway, a wee proposal for action. Since there are many of us (TAMBers) all over the world, we could send some press releases or any similar material (statements, photos,... whatever) to our local press. Just, is there anyone who could provide us with some? I mean there is some info on http://www.scotland2008.org but is there a comprehensive one that we all could use to translate and send to press?
When I mentioned translation - what happened with my ones for the web?

If everyone was as negative as some on this list, we would have no chance. As it stands we have a very good chance with our bid. It will be a 2 horse race between us and the Austria/Switzerland bid.
Which one will you support?

Aye, it took me a while to understand that but - whatever chance is still much better than no chance (i.e. no bid), isn't it?
So, let's go for Europe in Scotland @ 20:08!
