Just back in The Hague after yesterday's Borussia Dortmund v Munich 1860 match. My first trip there since April when I saw the BVB v Wolfsburg game and my 5th visit in the last 3 years.
The attendance yesterday was 76,500 - a new record I believe in the 40 years of the Bundesliga. Dortmund won 3-1. There was a minutes silence before the game for Lothar Emmerich who died during the week. A real Dortmund hero who was a scorer of classic goals for both the club and German national side. He played in the winning 1966 Cup Winners Cup final team against Liverpool in Glasgow and was the fans representative on the board.
The stadium development for the 2006 World Cup is now almost finished with the project to enclose all the corners - just the corner block between the South and East stands is still to be completed - which of course it will be by 10th September!!
The atmosphere in the ground is even more incredible now - a real "goose pimples" experience. All the sound is contained in the stadium by the roof and what were the loudest supporters in Germany have to be about the loudest in Europe now. 10th September is going to be a hell of an occasion for everyone!
All the locals are very excited and are looking forward to one of the best nights of the year for the Scotland game. People shouldn't be surprised to see a lot of Celtic shirts being worn by local Germans on the night. With Paul Lambert and Murdo Macleod being former BVB and Celtic players the links are very strong between the clubs.
One of the multitude of places for beers will be the Friedensplatz in the centre of the city. It's traditionally where the locals welcome home the team after a major trophy win. I suspect there will be entertainment and stuff laid on there before the game.

Cheers Danny. It's probably a half hour march - quite doable. And for anyone too inebriated there's plenty of trams ;-)
