Fresh ideas

Anyone hoping to travel from Warsaw to Vilnius bear in mind that these trains are every other day. The faster trains (8 hours) via Belarus need a visa which was about 80 USD, more hassle than its worth. The slower train (12 hours) cost around 8USD, we paid less than £200 for the flight so as long as time is no problem its a good cheap trip. Don't expect the high speed trains we're used to, think eastern block and lonely planet programmes and you may get the idea. Its good fun though and to be recommended, take a good carry out as the train splits after a couple of hours and the buffet car goes off with the other half. Also take toilet roll, don't pull a face you'll thank me for that one, if you don't need it someone will offer you hard cash for it.
Try to get the booklet Vilnius in your Pocket (also do Kaunas), it contains info on transport, accomodation, bars, in fact any TA need can be found here. Their web site is www.inyourpocket.com
