GET A LIFE!!! |
Papers speculated a while back that it could be as low as 700 - but I doubt if anything will be confirmed until about August at the earliest. There was also a fair bit of chat about Iceland end tickets being pretty easy to come by if we can't get Scotland end ones...
Hopefully it'll be a lot more than 700, though, otherwise I would think there'll need to be a ballot.

A report posted by Chewy a few weeks back, reckoned that they may look at temporary stands behind the goals.
Then we'll know why they call it ICELAND !

I thought that UEFA (FIFA?) had ruled out temporary stands - did they not allow it for Iceland's WC '02 qualifiers but say they wouldn't again?
Or maybe I'm just talking pish...

Think I heard that aswell TS or something like they couldn't use their terracing? Anyway they only need to give us 10% of their ground and if they cant use temporary stands or teracing and they think they'd be able to sell the rest of their tickets thats only 700 tickets for us regardless if we've booked trips or not.

got a Danish guy at work to look up some Icelandic football site. Apparently the Icelandic FA sold tv rights to a satellite sation that not many people have (sound familiar). As a result there is a big rush for tickets for home games now. I'm not sure about the 10% rule anymore. Quite a few european club ties have resulted in clubs getting less than 10% for "segregation and security" reasons. Is it in a ueafa rulebook??

Aye Maradona - there are more questions than answers!
It does usually go to a ballot if there aren't enough tickets (last time was Prague '99, I think) but as far as I know, there is no points system (I got tickets for Prague and it was my first away trip)
Dunno about numbers expected to travel - I know there are a few charters fixed up as well as those who have booked their own travel, though...

Tartan Sheep,
The last time there was a ballot was for Wembley 99 and there most certainly was a points system. People who had travelled to away matches in the qualifying group were given priority of the tickets. I got that from the horses mouth. We got our tickets based on having been to Prague. I don't think this is a general rule though, as when I phoned about the Belgium tickets, they said that if demand oustripped supply again (which it didn't believe it or not), they hadn't decided how they would allocate. So who knows?

I thought if there was more demand than supply that your Travel Club membership number came into the equation somehow, or in the words of a famous previous poster

I'm pretty sure that the rules of the STC are first come first served !! However, France 98 was a points system based on away matches, Prague was a purely random ballot. Seem to change the rules whenever they like!

More Than Words |
If there are not enough tickets to go round they usually have some kind of a ballot.
For France '98 anyone that went to a qualifier was entitled to 1 ticket. 2 qualifiers, 2 tickets. 3 qualifiers, (or the game that never was), 3 tickets. Any left over went to a simple ballot.
I hadn't gone to any qualifiers, but got a ticket for Norway in Bordeaux.
Don't know what they will do for Faroes or Iceland, but a ballot looks likely...

The rules of the STC state something like "tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis unless otherwise changed by the international committee"
In other words, they can distribute tickets any way they like.

I think they base ballots on what stage of tourney we are at. So, play-offs, WC98 were based on away attendance in qualifiers, and new members can't jump in. Qualifiers themselves are on more simple ballot, so that new members get a chance to go, and so build up loyalty points for final stages. Also, just applying for Prague tix (even unsucsessfully) counted towards play off tickets for STC purposes. We got our game tix through Czech embassy in the end.
By that reckoning, Iceland will be straight ballot, (maybe with proof of travel plans required?)

Faroes will be the same... not alot of tickets, but more and more people are wanting to go to the obscure games as well.... if anything i would think they would give priority to fans who went to the previous qualifiers.
Still think it will just go on a ballot though
