OK,Will someone please explain to me,during the commomwealth games why does an E....sh athlete receive his,her medal under the St george cross singing allong to land of hope and glory if this is the national anthem of E.....d why the hell do there footballers sing God save the queen??

but why does the scottish team have scotland the brave and the national football team play flower of scotland?
i'm a little mixed up...

Just heard the Welsh Anthem being described as a Victory Anthem.
In my humble opinion the best Anthem of them all.

Gotta say land of my fathers makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!!!! god knows why, i have no welsh connections at all!!! I had this conversation at work the other night though... came to the conclusion that the home countries must not be recognised by the IOC or something. ALthough they should play FOS instead of STB!!!! rugby 7s side was piped out onto the pitch by two pipers playing FOS, they played sihte though

I think, I could be wrong mind, that They don't sing God Save the Queen at the Commonwealth games cause is is the British national anthem so they sing that at the olympics and land of hope and glory is the english anthem so thats sung at the commonwealth games.
Don't ask why the don't sing land of hope and glory at the fitba! Maybe they should!!!!!  ,

must agree with will re the welsh anthem........the only welsh connection ive got is being pished oot ma heed in ziggys in newport afore the 85 game in cardiff...........still never seen coop pittin that penalty away some big gadge fae port glesga wis hingin oan tae me shoutin ah canny watch,cos he was aboot 6 fit 7 an 23 stain niether cood ah!!!!!!!!!

I think Kernie has pointed out before that england dont actually have a national anthem! GSTQ is the Anthem of the United Kingdom (wont say national anthem as there is no such nation as the united kingdom!) Still doesnt explain why they are playing STB instead of FOS?!?!?!

But several of my compatriots, yes . Although I look at it more as a Post-British Identity Vacuum, which should right itself in time. 
Folk have been agitating for our football and rugby teams to dump The Dirge for a while now... these Commonwealth Games might just turn it into a mass movement :here'shoping:

It just cracks me up when the English bob their little flags up and down to Land of Hope and Glory.
Englishness personified.
The song is a lot less threatening than GSTQ,and they should keep it as their first choice.
