GET A LIFE!!!

There are some people on this thread who subscribe to the Graham Spiers opinion of Junior fitba, and as with the tweed jacketed one, have probably never crossed the threshold of a Junior ground since they were in short pants.

I see a Junior match at least once a fortnight and I can assure you that it has no more "neanderthal psychopaths" than can be found at grounds of a higher level. As for the injuries, I can only speak for my own club and after 11 years of involvement I have never witnessed a Junior player suffering a leg-break, and only a handful of serious injuries. All but one had their own teeth as well.

Although Junior football is not the breeding ground it once was for Senior players, due to the fact clubs tend to pick up players young and develop them themselves, my humble little club put Chris Innes of Stenhousemuir/Kilmarnock/Dundee United on the road to fame and fortune.

Here was me thinking that the esteemed contributers to this thread would never in a million years have swallowed Spiers-esque stereotypes?

The Spiers comparison is a low blow but what more would you expect from someone who follows the activities of junior footballers
Reeky, sorry but this is one area that really gets my goat and if I am lumped with that twat so be it. Coming from Dumfries I never really understood the point of this level and anyone I knew from that side of the game seemed to be a complete on pitch ned.
I have also had the misfortune to read Jon Fairgrieve's "Away wi the Goalie" which does as much for junior and Scottish football as the bible.

As if its not bad enough Thermo agreeing with me, can anyone tell me why there is a separate junior FA and why does the SFA not hold the whip hand over this blazer suited football guerillas?

Opinionated Wind Bag

Talking of Blackburn. My first venture into amateur football was with a Queensferry-based team which happened to have three Blackburn lads playing for it.

After four consecutive defeats the management called a crisis meeting and requested all players, committee, etc to attend.

At the time the club was also in financial turmoil and the manager was keen to hear ideas on how to turn the situation around.

The room was completely silent as everyone racked their brains for that elusive money making scheme. Then one of the Blackburn lads stood up and, looking almost smug, declared "Ah can get us soap powder!"

The manager looked perplexed. "Ah work in a soap powder factory," he continued. "So ah can get us free soap, tae wash the strips like."

Needless to say, the club folded about a fortnight later.

"Oooh...I do like your stuffed puffin. What's her name?" she asked. "Cedric," he replied.
