Something to say |
I've just been catching up with the Ian Adie thread - what a load of p**h some of you guys can talk. I know him , like him and trust him - but unlike most of you, I've actually met the bloke.
And I see The Retard gets the usual bucketful. I've defended it before on this board but - at this time on a Friday - I can't really be ersed.
But, let me offer something postive.
Ian Adie was the TA "spokesman" in Thursday's paper because most journos have no-one else to call.
They look up "Tartan Army" in their contacts book and he's the only name there. It just gets passed on from reporter to reporter.
With the 2004 games starting and 2008 a hot topic, most papers are going to need TA reaction and comment on a whole host of issues.
If ATAC is as near to an "organised" TA as we've got, it should appoint a spokesperson . And his name and number should be circulated to all the papers.
Then again, some of you may say the TA is thousands of opinions, not one.
Either way, it's Friday, it's five o'clock and I'm going to get crackerjacked!

That's novel, blaming ATAC for the laziness of Scottish journalists, interesting concept that!!
And forgive me I must have missed the positive part of your posting!!
As for Ian Adie, I didn't comment on the original thread as I didn't feel it was worth the bother, I'm just delighted for you that you can trust him, good luck!!!

Talks too much |
The obvious contact for the lazy journos out there is Hamish husband who is ATAC's appointed media spokeperson. Hamish is well enough known by certain parts of the media to get on the radio, TV and into newsprint on a number of occasions already.
Having said all this I don't have a contact number for him but I am sure it is on the website or Tam "Calendar" Ferry can provide the info.

Bob, I take your point about availability of a `spokesperson` but what about this forum. Any `post` put on the board will generally get a response within minutes (too many sad b*****ds like myself with nothing else to do). Surely it would be a worthwhile exercise (now and then) to pose a question to the TAMB.
As for the daily retard, I don`t hold the views of some about the paper. I live in Kent and rely on the Record for my Scottish football updates. There is a certain bias by some members of TAMB against the paper as even as a Rangers supporter I have to admit the sports page does `lean towards` the old firm which understandably does alienate a large number of TA members. It suits me but I do sympathise with the others.
Back to the main point though. Give the TAMB a chance and ask us for some views, if nothing else it will give you something to `have a crack at ` in your column.
Hope you have a good night

Bob,
I too said nothing about Adie.
But why do the papers need such a thing as a "TA spokesperson" anyway?? Do German, French, Italian etc fans have one?? I will stand corrected if they do.
Using the ATAC spokesperson would seem sensible because then at least they represent a definate group of fans.

Personally, I think the general consensus is that we don't want or need a TA spokesman. I don't see how this could work. We don't all hold the same views, therefore one person cannot represent all of us. As for bias against the Daily Record, I think a lot of it is justified.

I found ATAC spokesman in just two steps.
First one was to type http://www.tartanarmyclubs.com and the other one was to click on 'Contact ATAC'.
Someone wants a comment about Euro2008? For me, the normal way of doing that would be a visit to http://www.scotland2008.org (you even get that if you type scotland 2008 in search engine) and then off to 'Contact' again.
But again, I believe that many people would be lazy to type that it was said by ATAC Spokesman but rather TA spokesman (two letters less to type in the acronym, and so many letters if full title needs to be typed).
C'est la vie

Anyway, which Scotland fans did Ian Adie consult before he told the record 'our' views?

To be fair to Bob, he didn't write the article.
I find it a bit of a strange way to be a cutting edge reporter, a snoop looking for the latest scoop, nose to the grind and ears to the pavy, on the pulse........just look up the old book of contacts.
I just hope there are no major news stories needing the DR USA correspondant to talk to the heid banana ower the water.....BILL CLINTON or Ronald Regan, according to the book.
Other publications have not had a problem finding Hamish or the websites.
Since it was a 2008 story, there should not have been any problems since every newpaper has had at least two Press releases faxed to their office over the last year with all the TA 2008 campaign details on it.
Bob can you please inform your fellow reporter(s) that the http://www.Scotland2008.org website and campaign has been running for two years.
Hamish's mobile number is on this website and the http://www.TartanArmyClubs.com website, under contact.
hope this helps for future reference.
Cheers,
Tam

Bob :seriousmode: I didn't pass comment on Ian Adie because I don't know the guy, but someone else mentioned that he no longer goes to every home game and doesn't travel anymore and has moved onto "bigger if not better things", can you confirm this? If so I would question, along with the other guys on this thread, whether he is the right person to seek opinions from. Surely all my cuddly new friends at ATAC should be the people to seek out?
I do think there has to be a "spokesman/men/women" if you want to use that word(s), otherwise they will use anyone they can contact that has even the slightest connection with the TA and quote them.
