Something to say

placard waving protestors staged a massive demonstration today in Aberdeen for UEFA inspectors.
They were met by a barrage of protests.Kingswells residents where the new stadium is to be built also erected a large banner saying 'NOT HERE' as the oficials flew over the proposed site in a helicopter. ( from teletext)

hope this doesn`t affect our chances

More Than Words

NIMBY's!
I actually believe it would be impossible these days to build an Eiffel Tower or Forth Bridge. Not because we don't have the money, but because of public outcry about these horrible ugly structures being too imposing.

I must say though, as an Aberdeen fan I'm totally against the idea of moving AFC from the City to a field five miles out of town where there are no transport links. I don't fancy spending three hours of my valuable weekends stuck in carparks and traffic jams...

For massive protest, read "7 people and a couple of banners".

One dame was moaning that she moved into this quiet village and did not want any noise or bustle all the time.

I say go the whole hog, cancel the stadium but build a travelling peoples ameniety next to Kingswell and see how they like that

What about an immigration "reception centre", a nuclear reprocessing plant and a sewage works, that should see the value of their houses drop .

These people bug the hell out of me everywhere they appear.   They claim to want peace and quiet but they always appear on the outskirts of major cities because they actually want to have their cake and eat it.   They want a wee bit of pretend countryside but not too far away from Marks & f**king Spencer.   And the property prices are the be all and end all.   Well here is the news folks................. CITIES EXPAND ALL THE TIME!!!   People can only be crammed in so much before the urban sprawl has to start sprawling a wee bit more to accommodate everybody (this argument may not be particularly relevant to AFC's stadium but I'm speaking generally here).   If you actually want peace and quiet then go live in the actual countryside, not the edge of a major f**king city!!!!!    Try the North Coast or the Islands.   They're both beautiful and quiet and there's plenty of room!   Most such areas are crying out for families to move in and make a contribution to the local community as opposed to muppets buying holiday homes and leaving them empty half the year!!!

I'm gonna go and take a wee drink now.   Sorry all.

I've got a big field at the back of my house, its near the main dual carrigeway we have a railway nearby and a wee harbour that could at a big push take a ferry if Kingswells don't want it I'll take it for Newtonhill[better watch what I'm saying I'll probably be standing for the cooncil in May and this could come back to haunt me]

Talks too much

I couldnae agree wi' ye more Bruce.  I drove past a few of the 'livid housewifes' wi' their wee biro banners, couldnae believe how smug they looked because they were getting some attention.  One of the pretentious smug wee midget bespectacled b*****ds took the hump as she stood by the roadside, there was a wee queue of traffic and it seemed that every motor that passed her gave her the finger.  Not to say I laughed like a daftie as her smug grin changed to a worried forced smile..

As an example of the small minded attitude of the Kingswells residents, a friend of mine's mother in law moved there 30 years ago and took up a local job within a matter of days.  She maintains that it took her near 20 years of suffering sniping, gossiping and curtain twitching to be seen as a local rather than an outsider!  Phick me, it's like an episode of yon 'League of Gentlemen'..

As a matter of interest, why was Kingswells chosen as a site? Is there not somewhere nearer the city that can be used - what's wrong with the beach area?

Dammit - if only I'd been on here a little earlier I could have said that!!

Kingswells is a local town for local people!!  What's all this shouting??  We'll have no trouble here.
When the builders move in there'll be strange wee men kidnapping brickies and locking them in the attic.

This little gem comes from the quality website http://www.kingswells.com , yes they are that sad. I particularly like the fact that banners will be supplied and they ask people to use the park and ride. When will this rent a mob culture end, I wouldn't be surprised if Globalise Resistance were involved in this.

"RESIDENTS PLAN PROTEST: All Kingswells homes that are on the periphery of Kingswells have been issued with a poster re stadium. If they object to the stadium proposal, could they please put them up on a window visible from the main roads this next week, in time for a demand for a Public Inquiry and UEFA visit on Tuesday.

There will be a peaceful and civilised protest on Tuesday morning. UEFA are, perhaps going to visit the site. If coming by car, please use the Park and Ride. We are meeting beside the church on the main dual carriageway from 9am until 1pm. All welcome although it may not be suitable for young children due to the traffic. Banners will be supplied. (Posted 14.9.2002) "

Other important happenings in Kingswells include the long awaited "clean up day" and the impending announcement of the first "good neighbour", this is great stuff.

"CLEAN UP DAY: The Community Council are having another Cleanup Day on 29th September.
People who are interested in joining the Community Council should meet in the Community Centre car park at 2:00pm.
As a little incentive the volunteers will be included in the draw to identify the first 'Good Neighbour'. The winner of the draw will be entitled to a Carvery Meal for two at The Four Mile House, Kingswells. For more details of the Good Neighbour Scheme, and the rules please see http://www.kingswells.com/kingswellsimproving.html
Do you know someone who has done a neighbourly deed? If so, please contact the Community Council with details. More (Posted 16.9.2002"

You're developing an almost unhealthy interest in the Kingswells website there Colonel, old chap.   Are you some kind of secret Park and Ride enthusiast.

I thought "Park & Ride" was just what folk got up to in Strathclyde Park after dark anyway.

Soap dodging layabouts. If I were the polis I'd get in aboot and bang some heids the gither. Who do they think they are disturbing our peace and no doubt wasting valuable police resources which should be used to catch real criminals....

Craig W,

There are a number of suspected reasons why Kingswells has been chosen, revolving around various sites and intended use thereof. But I wouldn't want to get involved in a libel action with a certain well know pillar of the community if these suspected reasons were inaccurate so I will keep schtum...
