Appartently there was alcohol being openly sold within the stadium.  Under UEFA rules that is strictly forbidden, and although Pearce is a gobsh*te, he did make a very good point that it looks very bad and will harm their bid for 2008.

I heard that as well Crozzer, although I doubt it will get much publicity, although there are UEFA delegates there so hopefully they'll have taken note. I heard something about glass bottles being thrown as well, dunno if it wis just in the crowd or onto the pitch but it cannae be good for the Swiss bid.

When things like this get documented in the press, UEFA have to take note, don't they ?

Especially when they said the Champs. league final went so well.

Do UEFA control the EFA too with those rules? I was at the EFA 1st division Bolton vs Preston play off at Cardiff in 2001 and they were selling booze in the ground there.

Alcohol is available at most grounds in Scotland and England, but this is normally part of "corporate" packages, i.e. meal, ticket and some bevvy.

The bevvy stops at KO, and does not resume until after the final whistle.

I've attached the section of the law below.

Do your experience Reading, Watford and Bolton contradict this?

Cheers,
Tam
-----------

The Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc) Act 1985

1.2 The 1985 Act prohibits the possession of alcohol on the way to matches on football special coaches and trains and makes it an offence to be drunk on them. It also makes it an offence to try to enter a ground when drunk or in possession of alcohol; to possess or consume alcohol within view of the pitch during the period of the match; to be drunk during the period of the match, or to have flares or fireworks at the match.

Bolton wis at the Millenium stadium (best stadium ever by the way). The have bars under the seating area where ye cannae see the pitch (in view of the pitch as yer law says). But abody can drink no just corporate types. Aye an it does shut 5 minutes afore the game starts so it seems right enough.

Last season trips to Millwall & Reading come to mind as 2 places where alcohol was available before the game & at half-time, but not within sight of the pitch. We wandered down a couple of minutes early to try and get a beer and were told they weren't allowed to serve until the half-time whistle. Whether this is a UEFA directive or some other regulation I don't know.

WOOHOO!!!! Swindon were granted an alcohol licence today!!!
they are gonna be able to sell alcohol from 1pm inside the ground and from 5 mins after F/T for about 45 mins. Strangely they arent allowed to sell any at half time.

It's all to do with local licencing laws.  There are stipulated rules aboot drinking at games but then it is up tae the local authority as to what they allow on top of that.

Sadly UEFA and FIFA dinae allow drinking at their games.

Fresh ideas

CTB
I was at the gemme in Prague in 99 and there was a punter goin round where oor seats were selling bevvy in paper cups on a tray that you could drink in yer seats. Maybe it depends on the local laws rather than UEFA/FIFA.
The bevvy was however boggin.
