Looks like on paper the joint bid wasn't particularly feasable either!
would have took guts to go for 2008 and it would have taken guts to say No altogether.
So which option did UJMc take?

Just had a read.
It's crap, they have switched the methodology to say what they wanted it too. The use of Visit Scotland as a comparitor is outrageous because their spend is all on marketing collatoral and not on infrastructure etc. and is used to supplement tourist firm's marketing spend. You would expect 12:1 with marketing spend but not on a public building programme.
Lastly, there is no mention of how much would be expected to be raised from private sector sponsorship i.e. banks etc. which the Austria/Swiss bid already has in place.
This document is a bag of bollocks!

What happened to the simple fact that every country which hosted the tournament has ever made a loss. Surely that is something to go on. Then there is the fact that TV money and sponsorship is higher than ever before. I read somewhere that the Austrian/Swiss venture has already agreed £40-50M of sponsorship.

Well, the amount of cash available from corporate sponsorship would never be disclosed until any tournament was actually secured. Companies don't want to be seen to back things that seem doomed to failure, especially when the Executive declined to give a solo bid its blessing.
But I know from my line of work that there was a high degree of interest from Scottish business in getting involved - certainly in a solo bid (not sure about a joint one).

GG,
Haven't there been sponsors already declared in the Swiss/Austria bid?
Mmm, I'm sure you are right about interest in this: B.O.S and R.B.O.S to name but 2 would have looked hard at that!!

Don't want to read it at all!
Swiss/Austrian bid is the best now and it is better than Scottish/Irish bid ONLY because Scotland is not putting solo bid...
Shame.
