Match Report

A very uninteresting match saw Scotland and USA play to a dismal 0-0 draw at the RFK stadium in Washington on the blindingly hot and sunny afternoon. After enduring a US style hype style send off for their players to the World Cup, the teams themselves lined up for the anthems.

A far better turn out of Jocks saw a much better proportion of fans rooting for the Scots. However, as had been the case the previous week, the fans were spread throughout the stadium and most of the noise was emiating from the Sams Army blocks of about 1000 sammers behind one of the goals.

During the first half saw Scotland (in my opinion) practice for the defence they will put up in front of Brazil in the World Cup opening match on June 10th. The Scots let the USA come at them again and again. I guess it was quite good practice but rather dismal in terms on spectator attraction. Even given that the US were allowed to attack, they seemed unlikely to get through the solid lines of defence (apart from a shot that came back off the crossbar after about 20 minutes). Not much more need be said.

The play picked up a bit during the second half and Scotland came out of their own half to play a more attacking game. The Scots were clearly the better side during the second half.

The Scots had a few chances, the best of which fell to Gallacher with approx 20 minutes to go. With only Keller to beat, Gallacher unleashed a soft shot that keller easily mopped up. jackson was very disappointing in attack and fell over twice when receiving through balls from the midlfield which would have sent him free on goal.

Nothing much else happened and everyone left the ground on 90 minutes to partake of the free concert taking place outside the stadium !
