Match Report
A fairly dismal match with both sides not playing to their top form saw Scotland go down 2-1 to France in Saint Etienne. Scotland fought quite hard throughout the match and may have deserved a draw. Not bad considering some key players in Leighton, Hendry and Lambert were all unavailable.
France, went ahead after 35 minutes when Laigle scored. A French cross was punch-cleared by Sullivan in goal for Scotland but only as far as Laigle who struck from the edge of the penalty box.
Almost immediately afterwards, Scotland levelled the score through Gordon Durie. gallagher crossed and Durie hammered the ball into the top of the net.
Sullivan held on with some good saves from Zidane and Petit. However, Craig Burley conceded a penalty with just over 10 minutes to go. Youri Djorkaeff converted it for the winner.
