GET A LIFE!!!

Received a couple of infected emails today, one from bzzzz and the other from albagubrath. The title line had the word Goldfish in it.
Anyone else suffering?
Is it worth you two guys checking on anything or have either of you received anything dodgy?

It's a gleaner virus. All it needs is to access one persons email address book and it gleans email addresses and sends random messages. I keep gettin them from BBC and various others. Bit of a viscious circle really and very difficult to eradicate (not that I know anything about it like). Best thing is just to make sure that when ever you send an email you title it correctly as these viruses can be identified by their titles, for example goldfish. I think it is when you open them yer email address book is compromised.
I have absolutely no idea if there are any inherant problems cause by this virus other than junk mail...

Yeah we got Norton Anti Virus, and it even pin-points in the world where the virus was started, and any virus emails you have, it deletes them automatically, highly recommended.

No, it was not from me. Even I get emails from albagubrath, sent at times when I was not online.

I have Norton Antivirus 2003 on my PC and it auto-updates itself whenever update is available. And I had full system scan about 10 days ago - not a single virus found.

Something to say

I've received quite a few emails from people on this board that I have no association with and they're not in my address book either.

Received the fims and the goldfish ones. Also received an email as if I had tried to send one to someone but I hadn't. Returned to sender.

I have Norton also and no viruses as far as I'm aware. Seems to be a problem with the board?

did we no work out before that it was getting sent to those that 'revealed' their e-mail address in their profiles on here - i changed my e-mail address in my TAMB profile and these virus mails now get sent to my new address.

So if you don't want them then chage your settings in your profile to not showing your e-mail to other users...

open your address book and put in new address *1000
as this is not recognised as an address
the virus will not be able to send itself on to the people on your address book

i've had these things in the past from various sources(no-one here though!). A good anti-virus  like Norton will always intercept them but if your ISP has a virus check as well then enable or register for it, that way any offending mails will be caught at source and deleted from the server rather than being downloaded to your computer. Did this with my bt account and it works a treat.

what happens with these is one persons gets the virus onto their pc. It searches there address book in they have on actually on their hard drive. It then picks randon names from the infected address book. It then sends out an email to a person in the address but sends itself as coming from another person in the addrees book. when the others open the email its ok. but when they open the attchemnt they become infected and the process starts again.

if you guys are getting emails from what appears to be each other, then this means that one person with your names in their address book has the virus. most often happens to shared pcs. and this address book is being used by the virus to generate the emails.

they often also appear as 'mail returned' etc, but of you don't remember sending them in the firdt place don't open them up.

poluar ones just now are back door torojans such as sub seven or virus such as klez. if in doubt don't open it.

ps if you open an intelligent finace on line bank account they send you free virus software http://www.if.com its made by norton
