I'm going to start at the travel agents and see if there's any cheap package deals - it's a holiday resort...

aye, fight and you may die - run and you will live, for at least a while.  And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing, to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, JUST ONE CHANCE TO COME BACK HERE AND TELL OUR ENEMIES THAT THEY MAY TAKE OUR LIVES, BUT THEYLL NEVER TAKE OUR FREEDOM!!!

The fatboy at NATA came up with a good suggestion of a couple of days in Istanbul then fly up. He mentioned a price of £255 for the flights.
I would recommend Istanbul as long as you watch what you are doing. Pretty cheap, good scoff and a lot of interesting local sights.
Somewhat bizarrely, before I went there I was told by Marjory to go and see an STC member who has a pub in Istanbul. He is Turkish but was a student in London in 1975 and went to the 5-1 game. Ever since that he has been a big Scotland fan. When i went to see him he had 4 pubs in Turkey all under the North Shields pub name. The one in the centre of Istanbul was on the third floor of a building and getting into it was like some 1920's Chicago speakeasy, you went up in a lift, knocked on the door, they looked out through a wee opening and then let you in.
The guy was absolutely brand new and a big, big Scotland fan. He is also the Scottish and Newcastle agent for Turkey and the sole importer of whisky in Turkey so as you can imagine, he's not short of a bob or two.

Aberdeen-Heathrow-Istanbul £220 return with BA.
(I guess Glasgow and Edinburgh would be similar).
Istanbul-Antalya about £110 return with Turkish airlines.
I fancy the weekend in Istanbul...

Those prices look no bad Ally, what about days and times ? I was looking for a quick in and oot and can't find anything suitable.

Leaving Edi on the Wednesday should give enough time but the ones I've seen so far don't arrive in Antalya until around 9.00pm.

I phoned the travel agent who normally sorts us out for trips and he says that the best bet would be a charter. I might give Bruce at Ramsays a call to see if he'd be up for organising something similar to the K.T.A.'s trip to Lithuania.

Anyone else got any other suggestions ?

Tell 'is about it Jim !

Edi to Amsterdam as the crow flies can't be much shorter than Amsterdam to Antalya so why the huge difference in price, couldn't believe it.

I'm now trying to find out which airlines fly from Amsterdam to either Istanbul or Antalya and maybe contact them direct.

Ally's £110 from Istanbul to Antalya is doable though, so that leg's sorted, if the times work oot.

If anything interesting comes up, I'll let you know.

Air Turkey definately go from Amsterdam to Istanbul, I've done that leg before.

And Air Turkey pour you the biggest measures of spirits I've ever seen, straight from the big bottle

Casualty, I did a search for Air Turkey, nae luck. Could it be Turkish Airlines you're thinking of ?

I tried them and got a better price £450.00 - Amsterdam to Istanbul to Antalya ( return ) but the times aren't good for a quick in 'n' oot. Don't get into Antalya until aboot 9.00pm ( or was it 11.30pm ? )

Has anyone else booked up / been investigating other possible routes ?

Looks good VASCO. I'm still trying to get there and back with only one night away. If I could get a trip similar to the one for the Lithuania game : Leave Edi 8.15 on the day of the game, back straight after it, £200, I'd book it in a minute.

Thanks for your suggestion though. If the wife fancies a trip we'll maybe make it a family break. Cheers.
