Just picked up the new SMYRIL-LINE brochure for 2003 and seen there is a sailing from lerwick to bergen on the 18th august on board the new " NORRONA " THIS CAN CARRY 1500 PASSENGERS AND 800 CARS ALSO HAS
LARGE AND COMFORTABLE CABINS, ALL EN SUITE, A LARGE SHOPPING ARCADE, 2 RESTAURANTS AND A CAFE, BARS AND A NIGHT CLUB SWIMMING POOL AND FITNESS CENTRE. sounds like the perfect way to travel only £104 return you can also book from Aberdeen

Bergen is much cheaper than Oslo (fir the bevy) and has a lot more women up for it, if u know what I mean, big student area so the crack is better and it saves you a few bob.
The trains run to Oslo regularly and they are always on time.
It's a dear place mate.

had a look at the website........
it doesn't seem to mention Aberdeen.
Do you have to get to Lerwick with another company?
& how much extra is that ?

Northlink are the ferry company that sail from Aberdeen to Shetland however, i think flying would be the best option as it looks like a very time consuming journey.........and thats jist tae Shetland

There's a lot of NOSTA boys from Shetland - I know they're thinking about going this way.
I looked into it myself, but the additional ferry from Aberdeen didn't stack up against the cheap flights from Prestwick. So we're going the boring way...
Can't beat a good p*ss up on an overnight ferry...

would have to be a week long trip, brally expensive i'd imagine.
leave here 2230 on monday arriving bergen in the afternoon. return is leaving bergen in the afternoon of the following tuesday arriving here 0100.
i know the bird in the local office, she says if you have a party of 25 or more with a bus then you get the bus on for free.
dates would be back into low season as well.
don't think its too expensive to travel from aberdeen to shetland on northlink, not checked their website though. on an overnight ferry but the bar is open till 6am or until it runs out of drink ( which has happened a few times, quite hard to get more at 3am in middle of north sea so carry out is essential.
just the length of trip for mainland based would be a problem i think.

If going from the mainland, quicker to get the overnight ferry from Newcastle to Stavanger and then get the train to Oslo. Done the ferry before and it's a pleasant if long way to travel.
Stavanger the oil capaital of Norway, so there's plenty of nightlife, so ideal for a stopover. If I remeber right, it stay in Stavanger overnight, so for little cost you can stay onboard when it docks.

Just checked the Fjord Line website, because it's summer the ferry goes to Bergen first, so even better. About 21 hours in total and leaves Friday and Sunday. The train from Bergen to Oslo takes 6.5/7 hrs. Sounds like a plan forming.

Northlink costs GBP42 return from Aberdeen to Shetland...takes either 12 or 14 hours depending on whether or not you go via Orkney. Longer if the weather is shite (more often than not). Northlink ferries are brand new, with 3 bars on each ship....one of them staying open all night.
In New Zealand at the moment and scored a very nice burd from Bergen....so can verify the earlier comment that Bergen lassies are more up for "it"!
Myself and Sheltie Neil are taking a car over from Shetland....couple of spare seats if anyone is up for sharing costs!
-----
Orkney 1 Shetland 3......12 in-a-row for the boys in blue (and they've scored more goals against faroe than scotland ever will!!!!)
