Hawkeye,

I think Ryanair from Stansted to Dusseldorf is dead cheap at the moment. Loads of other folk on TAMB have booked that way.

In failing that, I have a mate going from Stansted to Maastricht. Think he got a good deal and I can pass on info if required. All the trains over there are good so shouldn't be a problem getting from Maastricht to Dortmund.

Ryanair also go to Frankfurt from Prestwick. Amsterdam is also an option.

Plenty of variations, just don't know about prices now.

Something to say

HR,  there's probably cheaper but to start you off,  my mate booked Stansted to Dusseldorf today for £57 return with Ryanair.  Out Monday teatime and back Friday teatime to give plenty time for connections down and back.  Getting to Stansted and back shouldn't be too drastic.

A lot depends on the dates you want to travel, but I'm traveling by British Midlands (in partnership with Lufthansa) from Heathrow to Cologne for £85 on the Saturday to Saturday.

Hawkeye and anyone else,  whatever you do,  dont book through a third party i.e. lastminute.com,  e-bookers etc.  If you do then you end up paying them a fee to do what you can do yourself for sod all.  And as we found out,  if you want to change anything about your booking,  you pay (in our case) £45 for any change,  even if it's a single letter change in the name.  The airline don't charge anything but the "third party" charge an administrative fee.  For Dortmund,  all the possibles can be booked direct on their websites.  Keep away from the leeches.  Once bitten etc

Economy Apex return £98

Unfortunatley it is by coach, but direct from Buchanan Street to central Dortmund. Only 22 hours, it would be an adventure at least.

Only Hahn isn't too close to dortmund but at 2.99 + tax would you mind?

Easy jet from edinburgh to Amsterdam is also an option. http://www.easyjet.com and then bus or train to Dortmund.

Another option could be the Superfast overnight ferry from rosyth to zebrugge and then on to dortmund from their. http://www.superfast.com

PS You carry too much weight to be a winger

all the best
