I am going to Germany with LOBTA (land o'Burns tartan army) and they enquired about us sailing from rosyth to the continent, when they found out we were football supporters they knocked us back, we are now going from Newcastle, no problem at all, how can we expect to host championships in this country if our travel system cant handle a couple of busloads of TA? right mind to go to the papers with this one!!

That's been a problem for years. I remember going to places as long ago as Ireland in 88 and Sweden in 92 facing similar problems ... all you do is when they ask you if you are a football fan, say NO. That's all, and its never failed.
I recall Ian Sharp once booked a whole bus on a ferry once under the guise of "Dunfermline Angling Society" ... again, no questions asked. You just have to be imaginative !

Talks too much |
The ferry from Newcastle doesnt allow supporters unless they are in large groups with good behviour bonds. Before the Belgium game they were making dark noises about turning away anyone who turned up looking like they were going to the game....

Maurice from Forres already spoke to them, they were well aware that many would travel this way and they did not indicate any problem not to carry fans.
Unfortunately, the Sunday 7th September is a planned day for maintenance which cannot be changed.
If they are refusing to take Scottish fans then this is one for your MP or Union Jack McConnell. I've used the ferry already and if this is correct then I'll be telling them to stick it for all future possible trips.

Fresh ideas |
Ian Sharp
yeah I was on a few of his buses in the early days , as u say, went to London running buses to concert etc, I've never heard of him since.
O our trip to paris in 89 we booked on as an agricultural society ( if memory serves me right). No tartan in sight on th bus going on to the boat. The boat had just left the harbour and the whole bar in"civilian clothes" starts singing "WERE THE FAMOUS TARTAN ARMY AND WERE GOING TO GAY PAREE"
By the time the bus left the boat it looked like a shortbread tin with all the saltires and tartan.
ohh the fun old days
ps we were gubbed 3-0

I bumped into him in Rimini a couple of years ago - the last trip he ran was to the France World Cup.
He says he packed it in after that after getting a lot of grief - he ran two buses, one for his regulars and one for other people, and had to book the two buses into different digs. The people in the other bus didn't like their hotel, threatened to sue him, and he decided it wasnt worth the hassle any more. Huge pity, because his buses were a great laugh.
