GET A LIFE!!! |
The Association of Tartan Army Clubs (ATAC) was formed on 12th February 2000
ATAC was formed to look after the needs of the numerous Tartan Army Clubs and the Tartan Army footsoldiers in general.
There was no official voice of the Tartan Army to pass on concerns/suggestions to the Ivory Castle that was the SFA, until 12th February that is. Before then, most footsoldiers vented concerns/moans to poor Auntie Marjory.
The founding eight member clubs were;
East of Scotland Tartan Army (EASTA)
Edinburgh Tartan Army (ETA)
Highland Tartan Army (HTA)
Lunnainn Albannaich (The Tartan Army in exile)
North of Scotland Tartan Army (NOSTA)
Perthshire Tartan Army (PTA)
West of Scotland Tartan Army (WESTA)
William Wallace Tartan Army (WWTA
The primary concerns of ATAC are TICKETS and TRAVEL.
The Association of Tartan Army Clubs website is;
http://www.TartanArmyClubs.com
The Steering group of ATAC meet four times a year to discuss and take action on Tartan Army issues on behalf of the member clubs in particular and TA in general.
ATAC are in constant consultation with the SFA and other groups/bodies.
Once a year we meet with the Chief Executive of the SFA, to put across suggestions and areas for improvement as well as voicing our concerns.
As well as member clubs, we discuss items raised by individual STC members. Some of these are even suggestions, good ideas or positive feedback.
It is very easy to critise people, especially on an anonymous forum like this.
This board exists on banter and information and long may that continue.
Communication, however, is a two way street.
In the past, Communication from ATAC has been via member clubs, the website and through the TA newspaper the Haggis Supper.
With the emergence of TAMB as a news medium in 2002, any information will be disseminated via the TAMB in future in addition to current lines of communication.
The following text is from the minutes of the ATAC meeting on Sunday 17th February 2002;
Complaint - ATAC Clubs not easy to join:
A complaint was raised that ATAC clubs are not easy to join, specifically ETA.
Paul Smith defended this and stated that no-one has ever been refused to join ETA.
No ATAC club will have a closed membership.
Club joining details will be available on the new ATAC website (www.TartanArmyClubs.com), and details on joining are already in Scotland match programmes, Haggis Supper and clubs individual websites.
Communications:
ATAC members can raise any points passed on by any STC member and communications will be passed back to Member clubs, Associate Clubs, Tartan Army Mailing list, Tartan Army message board and the new ATAC website (www.TartanArmyClubs.com).
ATAC was not set up as part of some kind of elitist TA experiment, we are all just footsoldiers too. We are all Jock Tamson's bairns.
Nobody said ATAC was perfect but for a squad of unpaid pishheads, we make a pretty good attempt at doing a good job and do a helluva lot of work.
Anyone or club who is not referenced on the links page (which is still in progress) can email info@tartanarmyclubs.com and we will gladly include your club/pub in a link to the page (when I get a minute).
This posting is for information only and is not meant to wind anyone up, and is definately not meant to cause any friction.
I hope you will take the time to look at the website and get back to me with any comments or feedback.
Thank you for your time.
Cheers,
Tam

Mirza, since ATAC will be keeping us all informed on here from now on perhaps there's room for one more dedicated forum?
It would make sure that invitations to the Perth Sevens next year don't get lost in AOB...
(This last comment is a tongue in cheek wind up meant to pull the leg of some people who will hopefully take it in the spirit in which it is intended!)

Fresh ideas |
Call me a skeptic, but there has been some postings on this forum that have claimed elitism by certain people / groups, with regard to whom should be at the top of the pecking order when the tricky question of ticket allocation comes up. In one post by Ruary, I think...there was some inference that tertan army clubs who were affiliated to ATAC may have the edge when it comes to this. far be it from me a poor inexperienced footsoldier to comment on such matters, but this posting looks like it could be a defence of that particular claim? Of course no need to justify yourself.
On the minutes of the meeting that were posted, it was claimed that ETA was difficult to join. This was dismissed out of hand by ETA, through ATAC. How did this claim originate? There must be 2 sides. Without refering me to other web sites can you tell me and all others reading this how you actually go about joining ETA and what criteria you need to meet.

Davidd,
the complaint was a general one about ETA and Paul Smith stated no-one had been refused joining ETA.
In light of this critisism, Paul has revamped the http://www.EdinburghTartanArmy.com website and made joining info much clearer.
There is an application form and all the details on the ETA website so hopefully there will be no problems in the future.
It was all down to information. The individual concerned talked to a drunken ETA member on one of the trips and got duff info.
If you want info on ETA get it from the horses mouth, with the horse in this case being Paul Smith (the non-ginger version!)
The accusation was not dismissed out of hand, but involved a full and frank discussion.
Minutes document points, outcomes and decision and are not meant to be a transcript.
It was well talked about.
To join ETA go to the website, fill out the form and send it off. You must be able to drink 10 white wine spritzers in one sitting.
Hope this answers your question Davidd, but you still have to go to another website

Davidd -
best way is to go along to a meeting. ETA meet once a month in the Guilford Arms (behind BK at East end of Princes St).
I only know a couple of people that are in ETA but they are p!ssheads who are right intae their fitba' and I cannae imagine them making it difficult for anybody to join in.
Their web site will gie ye all the details.
Tam - joining credentials.............
...........huv they dropped the 10 Campari chasers after the spritzers????

Tam,
Is the Perth 7's only open to the 8 founder members or can any like minded "unofficial" group enter. I ask because a few of us are considering entering if possible as a TA Exiles outside England type team.

DavieDH,
the 7-a-sides are open to teams of STC members.
There have been 10 teams involved the last two years, and I've heard that 12 is the maximum that can be squeezed in to one days fitba (and drinking).
Dunno what the plan is in the event of 13/14/15 teams applying for join the tourney, never had to cross that bridge before.
Applications will closed at end Jan as usual, in time to discuss at the Feb meeting.
Feel free to start any new threads lads
Cheers,
Tam

I understand there will be an extra place next year up for grabs as WESTA are being relegated as their results-to-boasts ratio has dipped below the regulation minus 5000 mark!
