GET A LIFE!!! |
As you may have seen elsewhere on this board, after the ETA St Andrews night bash, some of us released a saltire helium balloon into the Edinburgh night - it had a wee card attached to the bottom saying "If found please log on to http://www.tartanarmyboard.co.uk and tell us how far it got". Daft, really, but it got me thinking...
Would it be worth trying to organise a balloon race type thing for the Sunshine Appeal? We could sell balloons to family and friends then release the balloons with cards attached to them (with numbers tying in to the numbers sold to folk) - and get people who find them to return the cards. The balloon that gets the furthest wins a prize for it's owner and the person who finds it....
Nae idea what all would be involved, but it might be a really good way to raise awareness of the appeal (in the press too).....
Or will I just get my coat?

Aye, could be good fun! could probably do the release at a game too (mibbe lassies or U21s?) dunno if they'd let us loose in Hampden with a mass of balloons!!!
This is something everyone could get involved with too, have a co-ordinator to send the money, names and addresses to and they can issue numbers for the balloons...
Dunno if you'd want to let Mazzy near THAT amount of helium like!!!!

Tie a rock steadier to a clutch of balloons and watch them disappear to Arran or even further.........
I would forsake the helium inhalation to watch some of them lose in the "inflatables" revolution

Sounds like a gr8 way to raise money. Good idea Tartan Sheep. How about we tie Jack McConnell to one without a letter to send it back to where it came fae.

Could someone mibbe speak to the SFA about getting acceptance of doing this at Hampden? I think it would look amazing having loads of Saltire balloons being released. We could see how much it would cost to get them with the Sunshine Appeal logo on them which has just been designed by WarwickTartanArmy Ian
I promise not to steal the helium oota them

I used to buy in the kids party things at my last job, printed balloons cost £10 for 125, I'm trying to remember the company name! And the helium was £25 a can (bloody big can, dont ask me how much was in it!) from AirProducts in Aberdeen. I'll phone my old work and get some info...
Its sore on the old fingers tying balloons btw!

Maybe someone should check if the SFA would endorse an unregistered charity.

They haven`t raised lack of registration as a concern as yet in ongoing correspondence with them regarding the Sunshine Appeal. Therefore it may not be a major issue.

ive had a wee sift through the internet and most of the balloon/helium (down Mazzy) companies sort the whole thing for you... print the balloons, blow them up and put them in a massive net for release. They deliver them to the place the release is happening too

With the help of a somewhat bored RichiefaeScotland, we've came accross this one as the cheapest... click here http://www.aboveallballoons.co.uk/releasesraces.htm then scroll to the bottom of the page for prices etc.
For 500 balloons and all the guff, it'll cost £215. Charge £1 a balloon, we make £285, charge £2 a balloon we make £785... easy money!

This is going to sound very strange - but bear in mind im a student with very little to do and a tendancy to drink huge amounts of alcahol.
Ok.Me and my flatmate got very drunk about a month ago and bought over 600 baloons which we proceeded to sit and blow up and put in a walk-in cupboard.
Went to bed and woke up in the mornin to find the cupboard about 6ft high in baloons.(Was great fun to play in!)
Point is that if 2 of us could blow up and tie that many (when drunk) - we shouldnt have a problem gettin em ready on the day!
(fingers were agony tho)

This issued was raised a while ago and is maybe something we should re-consider. Over the past few weeks the appeal has been driving ahead apace which is great to see. Maybe registration could create further benefits?
Not being an expert in this area I will bow to superior knowledge but I noticed that the Welsh fans have now registered their appeal which is very similar to the Sunshine Appeal. Maybe they could give us their thoughts on this issue?
