GET A LIFE!!!

The torrential rain meant that the main square didn't have the predicted 10k in it, but each of the beer tents did have a number of hardy TA packed in under the canopies.

At 2 pm we were missing Danny Divers and his Grandson Joshua,  Wee John and his lads, Blair and Ruari, and Spud was no-where to be seen.

Naturally the City Hall guy organising the day was having kittens (I got the impression that Germans like order) but Eva, who had helped organise this was keeping it cool.

The TA kids were introduced to the local kids, who'd been brought along by the social worker in charge of the project, and stuffed into a room. The silence was deafening so we were all let loose into the town hall itself, behind the stage.

A chaotic next hour saw me charging round the rainy square accosting any pipers i could find, and the kids starting to get a wee bit excited by the occasion.

A few group photos were taken of all the kids and the t-shirts, tops, dummy chq etc. There were about 10 photographers snapping away, which was quite funny 'cos the kids looked petrified.

In the meantime I had given the real cheque (£1000) to the President of the Association, who seemed really overwhelmed.

Eventually at 3pm the pipes started and the kids were piped onto the stage to make the presentations and to swap souveniers with the local kids. (the German FA and Borussia D. had both contributed with badges etc).

I think all the TA kids had a fun experience - it was certainly different, and I will definately NOT be working with kids ever again :-)

On a more serious note, I had found out on the Monday night that the TA SA donation would really keep this project going for the next year - it had been next on the council's list to have it's funding withdrawn (don't social services always lose out when cash is tight?).

I've asked for an update next year, but hopefully the TA have helped just a wee bit towards the integration of under-priviledged kids into the local community.

Thanks to all involved for bringing their sprogs along, JS for buying t-shirts, MNC for arranging the chqs (including a replacement dummy one after I had managed to lose the original outside Teuchters bar at 5am on Sunday morning), and Eva for making all the arrangements.

I'll post some photos once someone tells me how.

ps if anyone can provide a home to a german kitten contact: Rathaus, Freidenplatz, Dortmund.

:-)

pps Danny Divers truned up eventually and managed to fling wee Joshua over the fence just as the presentation started.

Pity the rain put a bit of an, er, dampener on things.  Especially after you seem to have done a sh*t load of work.....

(As an aside, and I'm being serious here, what happens if we draw England (or Wales for that matter) should we reach the playoffs - does the appeal still intend to make a donation?  Personally I think it would be a good idea, but would no doubt raise some real healthy debate.    If it happened, I think the publicity for the appeal could be huge (certainly if the SA donated in England.)

The SA donates to every country we visit, so I just thought it would appear a bit childish if we didn't donate should we visit there.

and let's face it, would anyone really think that an underprivileged kid in England is any less deserving than one in Norway/Germany/Lithuania etc. etc.

We could all wear our Loony Alba POTY t-shirts too.

And make it £1066.

Just as long as it's not £1966

As we're on this; how much have you got in the kitty anyway?  Likelihood is with a major championships next season we might have a few away trips.

I gave Ruary a Scotland top worn by Calum Davidson against Czech Republic at Parkhead.  Maybe use that for the play off donation.  i.e. whatever it raises is the amount given (thinking this because it's an extra game)??
(Pity Calum fell out with Berti as the plan was he was going to give his next top signed by the full squad)

£19.66 might be okay.

The SA website should be up and running very soon, and answer most financial enquiries. The `standard` donation is usually about £1000.

The obvious thing to do would be to donate money to Borderline - they're the guys that look after homeless Scots in London aren't they?

Should we get to and draw England in the playoffs again.

Also, one of the main objectives of the Sunshine Appeal is to ensure that the money helps kids. I know that many of the homeless are not much more than kids, but I doubt if they would be able to ensure that the money only helps homeless folk under the age of 16.
