GET A LIFE!!!

A 10 year old orphan boy who lost his leg during the bloody Bosnian war has said a heartfelt "hvala"-thank you-to Scotland`s Tartan Army foot soldiers for helping him transform his life.
Little Kemal Karic shed tears of delight after being presented with a cheque for nearly £5000,which was raised by the fans so he could be fitted with a high-tech artificial leg.
The youngster, who lives in sarajevo, lost his when he was 3 months old after he and his mother were caught up in a horrific shelling attack.
She was killed and for the past 19 years Kemal,or Kemo as he`s been nicknamed by the TA,has been raised by his gran,Adila.
Although he already has a prosthetic limb fitted it has to be replaced every 3 years because he`s still growing. His gran can`t afford the £1,500 cost of each replacement.
Six months ago,the Tartan Army were alerted to Kemal`s plight by Mirza Muminovic,a Boasnian student and Scotland team fanatic.
Within weeks, dozens of fans raised money from a sponsored walk and by selling t-shirts.
They also raised nearly £1000 from a book on Scottish football songs sold before the away game against France in March.
Tartan Army veteran Alasdair MacIver says "The Tartan Fire Brigade started the ball rolling by asking for suggestions for a good cause.Mirza suggested Kemo,so I opened a bank account for donations.
"We felt raising this money gave us a chance to make a big difference to one person.
"All we really hope is that it will give him a chance to achieve success and happiness.
"I am extremely proud of the Tartan Army.We raised 10 times what I originally expected."
After being presented with his cheque at the British Embassy in Sarajevo,an emotional Kemal said he was very grateful.
His gran added " This will change his life and I know he is very, very happy. It was a wonderful gesture from great people.
Andy Mitchell, spokesman for the Scottish Football Association said "the way the Tartan Army took Kemal to their hearts proves ,yet again, that Scotland has the best football fans in the world."
They now hope to bring Kemal to Scotland and that the SFA will allow him to act as a mascot at a Hampden international.
Their overwhelming generosity was so well-received in the war torn country it even made national TV and newspaper headlines.

The Sun picked up on it as well through some news agency in Vienna!

I would like to categorically deny that I ever said anything about cutting down on beer.

Aye. My sentiments exactly. Just shows what the TA and TAMB can achieve. Thanks again Ally and Mirza for your help. I hope you were happy with the piece.

Mirza, if you want to save the original for your website remember the URL will be replaced next Sunday morning with another story. For the next five days find the original piece at http://www.sundaypost.com/news.htm

All the best,
Iain.

PS - definition of a veteran.
vet·er·an; noun; Latin veteranus, from veteranus,
1 : an old soldier of long service
2 : a person of long experience in some occupation or skill (as politics or the arts)

That's you Ally is it no?

Mebbes old, but not enough trips under my belt to be called a veteran!

Fringo, the Lothian Laws walk was the single biggest fund raiser. Well done to all of you.

Apparently he's got a job now so probably explains his lack of activity in th internet cafes!

It was a great feeling doing it for such a worthy cause.
Must have been even tougher for the young lads like WK69, DigDaveJ and Dave, seeing old crocks like me managing it (only just though)

Something to say

I saw Gav on Sunday - minus his long hair!! (though I was hoping he would do a Charity cut of the golden locks for the Sunshine appeal). He even less of a Beast now....

We're getting the Engine ready for the Denmark game - Gav's organised a meeting with a couple of guys from Ratho who have a very similar Engine. Apparently they will be helping us get all the hoses working. Might be useful to cool down after a session in the Pandora!!

We had a problem (or still have) with the website - so I think Gav has lost all his e-mail addresses. You can get him on glindsay100@hotmail.com

Hope to see a few of you before the Hampden game - anybody want a lift from Edinburgh (not sure if there's much space left, though).

Will
