GET A LIFE!!!

Right folks,

Earlier in the year it was agreed that there would be £1000 donated at all away games.

For a few weeks i've been communicating with the Mayor's Dept. in Dortmund, having asked them to suggest a deserving cause - hopefully everyone will agree that the following fits the bill perfectly.

Our donation will be made to an organisation called "Association for Special Needs of Children and Young Persons in the District of Dortmund-Aplerbeck". This Association runs a mobile 5's court and organizes tournaments for children and young people.
The objective of this is to support the integration of foreign young people.

DortmundBrian provided the following info..."the district in question is one of those with many recent immigrants, mainly from Turkey, Russia, Kazakstan and other places.  Generally these kids don't have much going for them and have often had a troubled past as refugees etc.  They can face educational and language problems etc as well as racism and discrimination.  So I guess anything which uses fitba' to get kids together is a good thing! "

Our donation will apparently fund a year's worth of this project.

This seems a perfect cause for the SA to support.

The actual donation will take place on the Wednesday afternoon on a stage  being erected in the centre of Dortmund as a focal point for both sets of fans. Ideally we'd like Tartan Army kids to make the presentation, so if any TAMBers are taking their sprogs let me know.

If anyone wants more info, or has any questions - post away.

Cheers

C

Spot on mate.  Sounds like a really good cause.  Pretty sure we will manage to raise more than a £1000 though don't you.  If you estimate that there will be around 10,000 of us there i'm sure most people will contribute something eh?

The donation will come from money already raised over the last year or two.

Having said that, i'm sure there will be some fundraising going on in Germany.

Fresh ideas

Nice one C, as a parent of a son with special needs I know that these kids, whether they have a disability or are from a different culture, face a much tougher time being accepted into ‘normal’ society.  Things like a fitba tourny where they mix with others on an even footing helps dispel the myth that these people are ‘different’.

I’ll be in Dortmund with my 14yr old daughter and I’d love to attend, so if you could let us know any more info nearer the time that would be great.

For the donation / pressentation we could drive them up to the stage (or where the hand over will be) in the Tartan Fire Brigade fire engine.
Any thoughts?

I'M TAKING MY GRANDSON TO HIS FIRST EVER SCOTLAND GAME, HE'LL BE EIGHT BY THEN. I WOULD LOVE TO GET HIM INVOLVED IN SOMETHING LIKE THIS AT HIS AGE. (the kindness of the occasion would hopefully stay with him for life.)

Further developments....

There will be access for the TA fire engine to drive to the front of the stage in Dortmund with the kids.

And....the mobile football court will be erected either on the Wednesday or Tuesday for a game between TA kids and local kids (although i'm not sure about age groups yet). There might even be a chance of a TAMB team to take on the local kids (if we all wear kilts, we'll have an excuse for getting doofed)

Tuesday for a game between TA kids and local kids

Please define "TA Kids" - set up a footy pitch in the town square and you'll have half the TA wanting to play.

Hey Paul,

I know what you mean - i've informed them about the potential problem, so hopefully they'll be able to control things well enough.

I'm waiting to hear what ages the local kids usually are, but i'd imagine no more than 16.

However, i think there might be special dispensation for a one-off game vs a TAMB side.
