GET A LIFE!!!

Ruary kindly produced a wee song book before Paris.  Was there no some talk of all learning one or two before each match?

If so which of the songs need learnt before tomorrow night?

GET A LIFE!!!

I nominate Trains Planes and Taxis (or whatever it's called) - quality song which sums up life in the Tartan Army to a tee

And by trains planes and taxis
We'll be there on the day
To see Bonnie Scotland
Wherever they play

I've been trying to memorise them all day, but I've got a terrible short-term memory. I reckon we should all try and remember the Berti one, that would be good, might be quite hard to sing though.

Here's wee bits from Ian Black's forthcoming book.

"Ally nicked the chorus for this next one from Ian Adie of Scotland Be Good and The Wee’ist Pipe Band in the World fame. He couldn’t remember where he’d heard it.

The Tartan Rover

We've travelled with Scotland for many a year
And the memories and journeys we'll always hold dear
And now we are ready to travel once more
And we'll all have a party whatever the score

And it's planes, trains and taxis
We'll be there on the day
To watch bonnie Scotland
Wherever they play

You'll see us arriving in twos, threes or fours
At the airports, train stations, hotels and harbours
Then its off to the main square, the fountains, the bars
We don't even check in 'til we've had twenty jars

And it's planes, trains and taxis...

We take over the town but the locals don't care
'Cos they're all asking questions about underwear
Is it true what they say? Gies a flash o' yer bum!
Then they're wantin to tak ye awa hame tae meet mum...

And it's planes, trains and taxis...

Now the English don't like it, they don't understand
They think our good humour's a bit under-hand
But the truth is we just like a beer and a song
With a smile and a handshake you'll no go far wrong

And it's planes, trains and taxis...

Oh yes its the life o' a traveller for me
I'll follow Bonnie Scotland 'til I'm eighty three
We may seldom win, but here's one to confuse
No matter the score we know we'll never lose

And it's planes, trains and taxis...x2

Here is Ian and Alan Adie’s original version, which they recorded before the ’98 World Cup. Thanks to them for permission to use it, and to Ian for the next one. Scotland Be Good is surely the most joyous and exuberant call to arms that any army has ever enjoyed.
Ian is the wee blue-faced barra in the Viking helmet on the front of my book Tales of the Tartan Army. If you meet him, get him to tell you about how he got Chuck Berry’s go-ahead to use the tune.

Tartan Army Travels

Tune: The Wild Rover

We’ve travelled with Scotland for many a year
And the memories and journeys we will ever hold dear
And now we are ready to travel once more
To the stadiums of France to see the Scots score

And by plane train or taxi
(C’mon ye Scots!)
We’ll be there on the day
To see Bonnie Scotland wherever they play

We started in Germany in ‘74
’78 was Argentina we supported once more
’82 saw us suntanned and drinking in Spain
’86 On To Mexico, tequila again

And by plane train or taxi
(C’mon ye Scots!)
We’ll be there on the day
To see Bonnie Scotland wherever they play

To Italy in’90 where the weather was fine
’92 was in Sweden where the Scots fans did shine
We out-sang, we out-danced, we out-shone the rest
And that’s why Scots supporters were voted the best

And by plane train or taxi
(C’mon ye Scots!)
We’ll be there on the day
To see Bonnie Scotland wherever they play

We missed dear America in ‘94
’96 against England...we’ll say no more
Now here is a message to the good folks of France
Come join the Tartan Army for a song and a dance

And by plane train or taxi
(C’mon ye Scots!)
We’ll be there on the day
To see Bonnie Scotland wherever they play"

Feel free to print it out.
