England are 7th in the world in FIFA rankings you might not think they are 7th best but you name more than 7 teams better than them. They are consistently around there so they are decent. I don't think their media is particularly arrogant - they should expect success - just that we don't like it.
I don't hate England or want them to lose. If I'm in the company of TA it's a laugh to want them to lose but otherwise I don't actually care and just watch the game.
I think the anti-Englishness in fitba ranges from it just being a laugh or harmless rivalry to there being a large chip on the shoulder of some people.
Interesting to note that on the Ireland thread an Irish boy said that some folk in Ireland support England (very different from extreme unionists in Scotland supporting them too - I suspect the Irish way of support would be much more relaxed, in a generous good luck to them but not really very bothered kind of way).
No doubt politics has something to do with it, but we should get over the chip on the shoulder stuff - it just being a bit of a laugh seems fine to me. But with 70% of the electorate once more demonstrating their support of a political system whose major partner is with the apparently hated England, we will no doubt have this bizarre paradox for some time yet.

They may be consistently around, but they're not consistently winning the World Cup or the European Championships, or even getting to the semis. So why are we always getting "England Can Win World Cup", when well...when was the last time they won it? Thirty-seven years ago. Surely if they could win it everytime since 1966, the law of averages would have worked in their favour by now.  And if they are so great now, the likes of John Motson and Clive Tyldsley wouldnae feel the need to hark back to 1966 everytime the time on the clock changes to 66 minutes, or England have 66% of the possession in midfield.
I hate Rangers and want them to lose.
I hate Celtic and want them to lose.
I hate England (football team) and want them to lose.
I hate peanut butter.

I didnae say they are great but they are probably a world top ten side. It's not unreasonable for top ten sides to think they can win tournaments. The fact that they haven't doesn't mean that they are not realistic contenders.
fair enough we don't have to hear about it but when you are a small nation in partnership with a much bigger one in the bizarre way that we are, it's of little surprise that we hear aw their pash, however unpalatable it may be. They are not the only ones who do this IMO, it's just we hear aboot it.
I hate marmite.

Fair point that the media situation is mainly a result of Scotland being the smaller partner in the Union. But surely this means that the BBC for example, has a responsibility to broadcast in a less partisan way than they have been in recent times. Of course they're no gonnae be completely impartial but sometimes it's just shameful. Can't have your cake and eat it.
Ron Weasley is also gay. But Hermione is quite nice in the film.

No. Why? Just because you and the rest of Scotland want England to lose, the BBC are supposed to pander to that?
Sorry but 50 million people want them to win, so why on earth should the BBC feel it has to ignore their wishes just to satisfy the Scots?
As has been said before, Motson and co are just as partisan when Scotland are playing.

Bzzzz, in my opinion yes, you should have the choice. But 70% of you consistently vote to keep the Union intact so really you (collective 'you') don't have a leg to stand on.
And I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure you get your own commentary for Scotland games (i.e. when you are playing in tournaments) - in which case you do not see the commentary from Motson etc which we get when your games are on - when they are quite blatantly completely biased in favour of Scotland. It is true.

I hate partisan commentating with avengence no matter who is playing. In fact if its partisan towards a team I support I may in fact hate in more. Its completely embarrasing when events are not covered accurately because of a biased commentary team.
Why should commentators pander to anyone! Its akin to low level propoganda IMO.

Well that's a fair enough viewpoint Lamia and not one I'm about to argue with. But as far as I can tell the general consensus of opinion on here was that the BBC commentary is annoying purely because it is biased towards England - and if it was biased against England then people would think it was great (i.e. when there was the alternative TA commentary done during the World Cup).

Shall I tell you why I love to see engurland lose?
In football most club sides have a derby team who they love to hate and beat into the bargain. Why should it be any different in international football?
Sure there is a history and we all hate them for that but at the end of the day its football and you love to hate your rivals.

WHY I DISLIKE THE ENG***H.
EXAMPLE
While walking home a couple of weeks ago, there was a couple looking lost with a map in there hand.
I stopped and asked where they were looking for.They told me the Hotel and address. I knew were it was and gave them directions. They didn't uderstand my Aberdonian and told (not asked) me to speak more slowly. I gave them directions again (more slowly) but she still didn't understand. She then turned to the man she was with an said"i didn't think we would have this problem in eng***d". I in return said "your not in eng***d, your in SCOTLAND". To which she replied"well it's all part of eng***d isn't it".
Hpoefully she's still looking for her hotel.

Why I hate the English?
I don't actually hate the English as there are good and bad in most races and nationalities. On one hand you have Kernie and CUFC and on the other decent folk who work hard and don't have an once of malice in them at all.
I don't think it is "English" as such, more so the southern English who are some of the most unfriendly people on this earth. I have lived in Wales, Singapore and Germany and visited many more and have never met sheer pig ignorance as these people have. I generalise and I know I shouldn't but Scousers, Gerodies, Mancs, Brummies, Yorkshire folk all seem to be okay. Once you get south of Birmingham you hear the banjoes and enter the land of the Bigot. These southern folk think more of what they have, what they can get and one upmanship. If you had pneumonia, you can gaurantee they will have had double pneumonia. It is this attitude that rubs off on the English press and influences the rest of the world.
That is why I hate the English, well the Southern English anyway, not much to go on but I am sure it will bring a response.
Oh and do have first hand experience as I live in Oxfordshire with an English girl and her children in an English house. Our neighbours are fine but they are Geordies and Cantonese than god.

The northeners are just as bad as the southeners or even worse. in my experience in over 20 years of working with them the arrogance and racism towards the Scots is horrendus and they are all english at the end of the day including that mixed up bunch Geordies who some times try to be like us.exception to the rule is the Scousers who seem to like Scotland.

The whole 1966 pisses me off n stuff like - the 98 world cup i can remember the commentator saying at start of the engerland game ' and this is where the world cup starts for real' - about 4 days after Scotland V Brazil game kicked off the whole tournament!!!!!!!!
