I was being quoted £203 + tax with SAS from Edinburgh, but travel sources are telling me that SAS may pull out of Copenhagen- Vilnius route on 31/03/2003.
Like the ferry tae the Faroes , you can get there but you cant get back.

Its just no possible to go to Vilnius for a fiver. Anyone who went with the last Scotball trip will tell you you can do better for the cash (£420 for 36 hours). I imagine charters would be best for this trip if anyone fancies arranging them. If not the lithuanian holidays folk seem pretty organised and their plans seem reasonable. But sounds like a perfect opp for the Tartan Airforce.

First post after months of entering as a guest but hopefully of some interest. †I am planning my maiden voyage to lands overseas with the TA and Lithuania will be my first cap. †My investigations have also confirmed that the game will be in Kaunas as opposed to Vilnius. †I got this reply from the Lithuanian FA when I asked the question :-
Lithuanian national stadium currently is in Kaunas. Efforts are being made to either build a new stadium or renovate the old one in Vilnius but at the moment there is little to suggest that this will happen this year.
You can get more information on Kaunas and Vilnius from our official partners with contacts at : http://www.futbolas.lt/lff/en.nsf
With best regards,
Audrius Remeika
Would veteran TA footsoldiers therefore reccomend that me and my troops stay in Vilnius which seems a bit more lively or Kaunas itself. †Advice appreciated.

GET A LIFE!!! |
Used to live in Lithuania a while ago. Would recommend Vilnius although Kaunas is alright.
Often Lithuanians no fae Vilnius telt me that they preferred Kaunas as a city coz they felt it wis less stuck up. A bit like whit some folk say aboot Edinbro vs Glesca. (Couldn't quite see it masel as I stared from my ex-Soviet tower block but there ye go)
More bars, clubs in Vilnius although what I remember Kaunas has a decent student scene. It's no far on the train/bus anyway fae Vilnius. An hour or so I think.
I would have thought most folk would camp in Vilnius and fire through early doors to kaunas for the day of the game to sample the wares there.

I'm going to Prague in a few days. The flights were booked with GO in January and cost £128 for returm flights from Paisley to Stansted and Stansted to Prague. The point is if you book wel in advance, it isnae too dear.
I've just searched the IDOS site
http://idos.datis.cdrail.cz/DepForm.asp?tt=c&cl=E5
and there is a bus every day from Prague at 12:10pm which reaches Vilnius, via Warsaw, at 09:30 the following day. 21 hours on a bus ISN'T my idea of fun but it is an option.

English? Who needs that? I'm never going to England.

Caanae be bothered reading whats been posted already but train, bus etc from warsaw, poland takes 6-7 hours.
Direct train goes through Belarus hence £40 visa and personal invitation required to obtain visa. Train also changes on to different guage and so has to have different wheels fitted (couple hours).
Still an option though
I'm sure flight warsaw - Vilnius is about £120.

OK, then, quick question.
Been looking at accomodation, and where's best to stay? It's just that the last train from Kaunas to Vilnius at night seems to be before half nine - and that'll be 20 minutes before the game ends...!

Sorry, but I cannot see your attraction of going via Warsaw, we were there for the friendly and no cheap airlines fly there.
Have a look at the post on Battlebus 2, and take the cheap scenic route to Kaunus !
