One route that I havenae heard being mentioned is flying tae Frankfurt with Ryanair and then getting the train fae there. I'm not sure how journey times and prices compare with going via Amsterdam though. Saying that, Amsterdam does seem the more attractive option.

Fresh ideas

Alright guys,
I think it's about 3 hours from Hahn to get to Dortmund.
I reckon it's about the same from Amsterdam.
Try http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/detect.exe/bin/query.exe/e
For train times.

British Airways & British Midland fly from Edinburgh/Glasgow to Dusseldorf (about £110) which is about an hour away. BA also fly to Cologne which is a wee bit closer I think.

Good luck & see you there!
Cheers,
Gordon

Lads, look about for the best flight deals. Most airlines only offer you a good rate if you stay a Saturday night (except Ryanscare).

If you get a group of 10 or more the airlines will offer you a group rate which is usually cheaper.

But judging by the amount of people who want to go you best bet would be getting something booked by the end of the year, as I think interest for this may be more tha Brussels.

Personally I hope to be in Dortmund from the Monday through to the Friday then move on to Stuttgart fo the weekend, (but a wee trip to the dam could be in order).

Talks too much

The Germany match follows on from the Home game against the Faroes on the Saturday.  Just heard a strong rumour that Pittodrie may be in line to get this match.

Something to say

dont think you will beat the £110 price mentioned above.although you could go by easyjet to the dam and then the train for under a hundred quid, providing stelios's replacement hasnt put up the prices

MacDuffer,

see the "Germany venue" thread (second page) further down this page for travel via Ryanair Prestwick tae Hahn. Personally Big Mick I've found Ryanscare awright - apart fae occasional delays. Met a load of Jam Tarts fans there last year when they played Stuttgart - so canny be too bad for lads comin' fae Edinburgh/Glesga areas. As, Mick mentioned though I'd try and get sorted oot sooner rather than later as I think we'll have more here for this than Brussels. DenHaagDavid also brought up rail travel from Amsterdam and it's aboot the same 3-3 & 1/2 hrs from there or Frankfurt tae Dortmund. Obviously the Dam has it's other attractions - although for none of ye that's been tae Sachsenhausen in Frankfurt....has it's attractions as well, as a YH right on the corner of it! So, may be an option for other lads looking to dae a couple of nights sightseeing ......

Jist depends what yir after or reasons tae visit are Mick? Obviously the Dam's got pullin' power for some of the lads? If yer after a bit of culture & sightseeing then (no necessarily castles & museums)Stuttgarts no the worst place tae go. Bit up market compared tae other places as the city itself is pretty well aff in German terms i.e. hame tae Porsche & Mercedes. Canny really comment on the nightlife as I only stopped aff for a couple of hours on the way back fae a wee ski trip tae Austria. Fae Dortmund it's about 4 & 1/2 tae 5 hrs on the train and fae Frankfurt aboot 1 & 1/2. Will speak wi Ulli (GERTA) and ask him as he's born and bred here otherwise there's a city link here:

Thanks for that Alan. The main reason for visiting is to visit the Mercedes Benz factory and/or museum (no me though) as the girlfriend has an infatuation with the marque. Sad but true, whats even worse is that is beginning to rub off.

Aha - I can sympathise wae that as I was a motor mechanic before coming out here and gettin' intae the world of banking! In that case it's a definate must and I'm sure there's  organised tours etc of the car plant as well as the stadium. If ye need some help let me know and I'll see what I can find oot fir ye?

Brought this back tae the top as I was checkin' at the train station recently. And, it appears that at present the train journey from Frankfurt tae Dortmund is about 3 to 3-1/2 hrs for about 60Euro. However, end of this year beginning of 2003 there will be a new ICE (fast train) connection between Frankfurt & Köln (Cologne) which should cut about 1 hr off the journey. Just in case any of you want tae hit Dortmund quicker than the rest....
