Piotr,
there may be some guys travelling by train from Poland, but there were some problems last time - due to visa problems for Belarus!
Good luck, hope we see you in Kaunas.

According to a website I was looking at earlier, there is a direct train from Poland to Lithuania which doesn't pass through Belarus. The site was
http://www.inyourpocket.com/lithuania/en/
It's very useful - lots of handy hints on accomodation, what to see, how to travel about the country, how much things cost.

With your train TS ye wait fir 9 and 1/2 weeks at the Pol/Lith border. Well about 6 hours anyway. Hence the Belarus train idea.

Hey, I didnae say it was a good idea - just that there was another option to getting a Belarus visa.
I don't really care one way or the other since I'm flying to Vilnius anyway.

There's a bunch o' us thinkin' about doin' the Warsaw-Vilnius train... from what ah heard via Belarus is 8 hours and not via is 12 hours... add tae that 80 US dollars fur a visa and the longer journey sounds great!...
Any recommendations fur drinkin' / sleepin' in Warsaw?

I'm thinking of travelling by train from Warsaw. Change at Sestokai and I don't think you have to go into Belarus. Day time train as well. 8 hours to Kaunas or stay on to Vilnius - just over 10 hours. BA flights to Heathrow from Glasgow on Sunday 30th March £58.40 return including taxes then on to Warsaw in the afternoon with BA for £178.00 again inluding taxes. Back the following Sunday

A few of us are definitely considering the Warsaw option. Makes it a wee bit mair ae a tour instead of just flying in 'n' oot.
Having said that, the ideal option is always the daft adventure route there and then a direct flight hame tae yer kip after too many days of miraculosity.

This is beginning tae sound like a plan!
Looks like there's twa trains a day, one leavin' Warsaw Central 7.15, gettin' in at 18.00; night train leaves 22.10 and gets in 08.12... the website's magic (if ye can speak Polish)

I'm well up for gettin' the day trains... more opportunity tae fraternise...

John - What a title. Ever thought of using OS National Grid co-ordinates.
Speaking to Mick Upfield (Evertonian Scot and Wee_Midges_TA) yesterday and he is keen to join the trainspotters party. He lives in Oxford and could rendezvous with us in London or Amsterdam, whatever route we decide to take on the way to Warsaw. It would even up the numbers so twin rooms all round. Are you still considering night in Kaunas after the match? No need to worry about getting back to Vilnius and a couple of hours down the track for the train on the Thursday morning?

Jonny...The reason for the early train is to give us a night in Warsaw, we will buy a huge kerryoot fir the train to party the day away, a sleeper train is available leaving Vilnius at 19.30 on the Thursday night arriving Friday at 05.36, but not sure if it runs this early in the year.
