Anyone else see Peter Snow's stats on Johnny Vaughan tonight? Apparently, the English League is represented by 103 players this WC. Smug, arrogant laughter followed when it was mentioned Scotland was represented by only 5.
Allowing for Englands extra 23 for their team, and their much larger league, it's hardly THAT bloody impressive.
My fence-straddling days are over. COME ON NIGERIA!!!

Compare the hundreds of millions of pounds ploughed into the Premiership from Sky Television over the last ten years.
Then compare this with the fact our SPL clubs are laying off players and playing kids because we can't get a TV deal.
Its easy to see why their Premiership is so well represented.
hahaha Johnny. Its really funny.
Given the fact that Scotland is a tenth the side of England this equates to a real comparison of 50 against 103 - which in the circumstances is pretty good going. Especially when Scotland (and Holland!) haven't qualified.

In any case, there are 8 SPL players at the World Cup:
Caniggia, Christiansen and Lovenkrands of Rangers
Kjaer of Aberdeen
De La Cruz of Hibs
Mjallby and Larsson of Celtic and
Fan Zhiyi of Dundee
Interestingly, there are only 5 players from the Argentine league: 2 Argies and 3 Paraguayans

Interesting that two of the five are representing a team that the mighty Inger-land couldn't beat - Sweden.
And that another one, Lovenkrands, is with the team that will dump them on their fat arses in the next round -Denmark.
And here's what Prince Charle said following the match:
ďObviously Iím thrilled. Itís so nice to be into the next round. Jolly good stuff.Ē
Time to get the Stuarts back I think.

Cheers, Footsoldier. I'll send a little note their way.
What an insecure bunch they are, having to compare themselves to a country a tenth their size.
Gotta love 'em.

Schneckie - I don't think they were actually making a comparison. There IS no comparison, because they would hardly use the SPL as a gauge for the quality of the Premiership! They were just laughing at the fact that loads more players at the WC play in the English league than in the Scottish one.
And yes, 23 of them are English. Great, isn't it?

You claiming one of the Irish lads is really English then CUFC?
I thought only 22 of your squad played in England, your Canadian plays in Germany
The Irish had more English based players in their squad than England before Keane got sent home.
Is it really a sign of the quality of English football that the equivalent of nearly half the premiership is playing at the World Cup?
I'd have thought it would be better to have fewer foreign superstars in you league as that would show some depth of homegrown talent. But then that wouldn't give them any meaningless statistics to trot out about how wonderful the Premiership is would it.

I never said the Premiership was great. I think La Liga is the best in terms of technique and excitement.
But I do think it is fairly impressive that a lot of players at the World Cup play their football in England. It certainly can't be bad thing can it? Or is it yet another stick to beat England with? We have just qualified for the second round, you know

No, just think the Premiership is still a cushy number for some big names near the end of their career.
Too much of a fixation on guys that were the stars of tournaments 8-10 years ago at some clubs rather than players who will be the stars of the next couple

I know - I'm enjoying it while it lasts. I'm thrilled to bits that we got out of our group and I'm not too bothered about what happens against Denmark. In fact, I think we'll lose - but I don't mind.

Here we go again CUFC, posting messages which you use to cover yourself whenever engand do actually get beaten.
Please tell me exactly WHY you think that Denmark, with all it's second rate players, will beat england?

Erm - they are a very decent outfit, have excellent wide attacking players, a solid midfield and will be hard to beat defensively.
Allied to the fact that I am not entirely convinced by this England side, which we saw the best and worst of against Argentina and Sweden respectively.
I had to chuckle at your post though. Had I confidently predicted an England victory, I'd have been arrogant. But because I don't think we'll win, I'm "posting messages which you use to cover yourself whenever engand do actually get beaten".
Right.......
Had I accused Denmark of having "second rate players" I think I'd have been shot down in flames fairly quickly. But of course you can do it, with all those wonderful first-rate players you can boast of.
It would be pathetic if it wasn't so amusing.
I didn't think we'd make it through the group - I am ecstatic that we did. I am fairly sure we'll go out to Denmark - but I'll be thrilled if we don't.
I couldn't care less about what happens on here when we go out - do you honestly think it bothers me that much if a load of people I have never met give me stick on a message board? If I was being as pathetic as you suggest then I just wouldn't bother posting any more after we get beaten.
Have fun watching us in the second round. Bought your Denmark top yet?

CUFC 'Cofidently' predicting a win is what I'd class as your english arrogance and it get's right up my nose. Leaving out the word confidently would make it a more palatable and believable statement.
To come out and say 'I think we will lose' is crap and a cop out - and you know it....
BTW You forgot to mention that they also have one of the leading scorers in the tournament.
