You have to admire Roy Keane the player. His committment, drive and enthusiasm must inspire those around him.
But Roy Keane the human being is for sure one sandwich short of a picnic and a liability to his club.
Keane could have played his last games for Ireland & Man U.
Ferguson will cash in by firing him on the market, I hope O'Neill is not daft enough to be tempted.

Didn't big drunken have a "history" of violent incidents which might just have had some bearing on his sentence?

Keane should be banned for life if it is found that he Deliberately went out to injure a player.

Keane is a top man, wish we had some like him. He's gone too far in the past, but you can't pick and choose his personality. Let's not get all sanctimonious about it. What would we be saying if he was Scottish and the victim was Owen/Beckham. I remember everyone laughing at Beckham's broken foot. There is zero chance of Fergie offloading him.

FERGIE DEFENDS HIS SKIPPER
Sir Alex Ferguson has defended Manchester United skipper Roy Keane for comments made in his forthcoming autobiography, insisting he has nothing to answer to.
Of course he hasn't, deliberately trying to seriously injure a fellow professional is fine as long as it isn't a Man U player!
Thing that makes me laugh is that Keane wanted revenge for the injury that he received... TRYING TO TRIP HAALAND UP!! (oh aye and maybe something he said as well... can gie it but cannae take it... true marks of a coward rather than a sportsman)

Willfae - don't have a problem with that as long at is applied fairly, i.e. to every player and retrospectively (as would be the case with Keane). However I think this would lead to just about every player who has ever been sent off being banned, after all anyone who throws a punch, swings an elbow, goes in knee high or with studs showing is "deliberately trying to injure" a fellow professional. Suspect that you would need to delay the start to the season while clubs tried to find enough players to get a team together.
Assume all of you calling for a life ban would want Hendry to receive the same?

Fresh ideas |
After reading through this thread, I think the general consensus is that Keane was bang out of order and should suffer the consequences. Although I agree with that, I doubt it will happen.
There is an article on the Sky sports web site today with an interview from Fergie, where he says the book was looked over by Man Utd's legal team and there was no problem with it. Not having read the book it is difficult to comment...we only have choice snippets to draw crude conclusions from. As stated by an earlier poster in this thread, it shouldn't surprise anyone if Keane and Halland have made a settlement and agreement prior to publication in the news of the world and the forthcoming book...this seems like the most likely outcome given the small amount of information we have at the moment.
Their history goes back a long way to Nottingham forest, both there as young players. In 1997 Kean tried to trip Halland but ended up doing himself serious injury and was out for the season. After that incident Halland gave him a mouthfull and was justified in doing so, but Keane didn't forget and done halland's knee in the next time they met.
For all those saying, "it's happened before and will again" this is not acceptable...although legally Keane should be safe, I think the FA could weigh in with a hefty fine and massive suspension, he already has a poor discipline record.
Stand by Celtic, he'll be coming your way in the next 3 months...if you still want him!!

Gotta disagree with you there Jaggy. THere is a difference with throwing a punch or a bad tacle in the heat of the moment to Deliberately (and admitting it!!!) going out to injure an opponent in an act of revenge for something that happened 3 years ago. Bit like the difference between Murder and Manslaughter!!!
Keane's lunge at Haaland was pre meditated from a long running feud between the players and not from an incident that had happened minutes previously as normally happens.

Is not the difference between murder and manslaughter intent? Do players throwing punches not intend to hurt anyone?
Also not seen any direct quotes (as opposed to subeditors headlines) which indicate he went onto the pitch to injure him rather than "snapped" during the game.
Davidd - I have no problem with the FA applying the rules in that way, as long as they apply the same rules to everyone. For example I seem to remember Michael Own putting in a very late, studs up tackle on a Man U player (Ronnie Johnsen?) which left him with damaged ligaments - how about a life ban for him as well? What about Leeds? They wouldn't be able to field a five a side team!

Keane is a moronic animal , Di Canio got something like a 12 game ban for pushing over a ref (only injury a sore arse and injured pride) So what will the wonderful E*****h FA give a player that could well have ended a fellow players career ? As he plays for the mighty **** probably not much , carpet , swept , under , the spring to mind !!!! Sir Alex should be embarressed for standing up for the over paid physco , should be a life ban , footballers have got to much power and are strangling the game we the fans love with real passion !!!!
