Found this on the BBC Sport website. Keanes actions and attitude truely sicken me. He was out of order during the world cup and now he has admitted GBH on the football field. I hate this guy.
Roy Keane could be in hot water with the Football Association after revealing he deliberately injured Alf-Inge Haaland. The admission comes in the Manchester United midfielder's forthcoming autobiography, which is being serialised in two British newspapers.
The Irishman says he "had waited long enough" to exact revenge on Haaland after suffering a knee injury while playing against the Norwegian in 1997.
Haaland was left with damaged knee ligaments after being fouled in the Manchester derby of April 2001 and has not started a game since.
Keane's book also reveals he added insult to injury by taunting Haaland while he lay stricken on the ground.
"And don't ever stand over me again sneering about fake injuries, and tell your pal (David) Wetherall there's some for him as well," Keane is quoted as saying.
Keane was sent off for the tackle - and in the book he claims: "I (didn't) wait for Mr Elleray to show the red card. I turned and walked to the dressing room."
Haaland says he may sue
"Having read the comments we would like to see the book in its full context before making any decision.
"However we clearly would never expect any one individual to set out to physically hurt an opponent at any level of the game."
The suggestion of a premeditated attack has also alerted Haaland, who has hinted he may take legal action against Keane.
Keane heads for the dock
The 29-year-old was quoted on Tuesday in British newspapers as saying: "Am I going to sue? Make your own mind up. I've played only a few games after the tackle.
"I will go in and see if I can find any of Keane's studs inside there."

I think this might be the end of the road for Keane.
He's finally taken things to far, he's never goin to play for the Republic again, all it takes is for him to be a wee bit below par for Man U this year and Fergie will off-load him.
As he done Ince, Kanchelskis, Sharpe etc.

The man is a bloody animal, always has been. But he has been over-protected by Ferguson and a biased media.
Despite the Mancs winning the European Cup in 99 nothing gave me greater pleasure than seeing that tw*t missing the game because of suspension.
Shame he won't be in the Irish side next April I could have given him some right abuse...

Sad thing is, he needs something controversial to sell the book. You can absolutely guarantee that he's had legal advice about getting sued for this before publication.
It's either a calculated gamble that increased sales will cover any legal payout, or worse still, they've agreed some kind of compensation in advance.
Any tabloid murmurrings will all be staged publicity for the book. Here's hoping nobody buys it...

Wonder if the same comments would have been made had he played for Scotland instead of Ireland?
I think it was an incredibly stupid thing to put in the book (although the BBC doesn't appear to have many direct quotes of what was actually written) but is this really news to anyone? Did anyone really believe it was a coincidence that he "caught" Haaland with that tackle?
On the spat with McCarthy, how many players do you think would continue to play for a coach who had questioned their commitment to their country in front of all of their team mates?
Wonder how many of those media pundits who will doubtless lay into him have "got a solid tackle in early" or "let someone know they were there" during their careers?
I am not defending what he did but let's get it in context - it is not that unusual for one player to try and injure another and get no more than a red card for it - and players having "vendettas" is hardly unique.

In my eyes it was premeditated assault.
There is no place for shit like that in the game no matter how good the people think he is.

You may recall that I'm a bit of a Roy Keane fan from all the discussions that took place before the World Cup and that hasn't changed, despite all the latest revelations. As others have said - did anyone honestly believe at the time that the tackle was not premeditated? It's not exactly news - it's just that everyone has picked up on it following the serialization of his autobiography. I'm not condoning it - I didn't at the time, and I never will - but he's not the first to deliberately injure someone and he'll not be the last.
I don't believe for a minute that Keane would have been daft enough to put that stuff in the book without first taking legal advice about what could happen, either. I'm sure the FA can charge him with bringing the game into disrepute, but I can't see how they could do anything else, especially since he was sent off and subsequently banned for a few games anyway. He's served his punishment for the tackle - can't see how they could punish him again.
The oddest thing about all of this is that it comes after a season where he seemed to have calmed down on the park (the "dispute" with Alan Shearer apart - but surely everyone is allowed to lamp Alan Shearer once in their career?!) and allowed his, not inconsiderable, skills to do the talking. That might be a bit hard to do now and I fear (as a Manchester United supporter) that it will ultimately lead to him quitting the game.
OK - flame away...

If I were a betting man I might be putting a sneaky 'one'-er on Sir Alex offloading Keane in the next few days. No one expected him to dump Ince but he did. Roy, you are now a liability - and that's that. Parkhead awaits...

Something to say |
Well said Tartan Sheep.
I don't condone it either, but people put in tackles with the intent of hurting someone in most games at every level, Keane's being made a target because of who he is and who he plays for.

Neil Simpson's challenge was not pre-meditated, but it took several years out of Ian Durrant's career. And the witch hunt ended his own.
Perhaps if Roy Keane's challenge had been made against Michael Owen or Joe Cole there would have been more repercussions...
