Historic Scotland properties to accept Euro Jun 28 2002 09:45:00
Historic Scotland properties, including Edinburgh Castle, will accept Euro currency notes from July 1, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Dr Elaine Murray announced today.
In order to offer the best possible customer service at its properties throughout Scotland, Historic Scotland will be accepting Euro notes at its 66 staffed sites. Change will be given in sterling. Euro notes can be used for retail and catering purchases as well as to pay for admission.
Dr Murray said: "I am pleased to announce that after monitoring the demand from visitors to pay in Euros and assessing the business case for accepting them, Historic Scotland has decided to go ahead and provide this service to visitors from Europe.
"Accepting Euro notes is one more important element in making as many people as possible feel welcome when they visit Scotland from Europe. At the height of the summer 26% of visitors at Edinburgh Castle come from Europe; the percentage is 22% at the rest of the properties.
"Initiatives such as this should help the castle keep its five-star assessment for customer service and Historic Scotland's overall visitor satisfaction rating of 98%."
A successful trial of accepting Euro notes at Skara Brae on Orkney took place from April. This will now be rolled out at all Historic Scotland properties including Stirling Castle, Urquhart Castle, the Border Abbeys and Iona Abbey as well as Edinburgh

Hmm... is a good idea as long as other more openly used outlets are accepting the Euro...
no point accepting the Euro if the rest of the country is still taking Pounds Sterling... cannae see it happening in Scotland... too much like a step in the Independence direction... and we cannae have that can we e*****d?

No, you cannae have it as long as such an overwhelming majority of you actively vote against it.
"the rest of the country"?? Which "country" would that be then?
How exactly will scotland's independence be enhanced by having its fiscal policy dictated from Germany? Wouldn't using scottish currency be a greater symbol of your 'indyness' than using the Euro?
