I Don't wanna get into politics here as my opinon is far right to most people here as i tend to side more with the israelis point of view although i totally condem what happend yesterday, It was good to get rid of the hamas leader as he's been an outlaw for years but killing innocents is so wrong, I have more tendencies to Israel but also have a place for the palestinans as it's such a delecate sitatuation.
As for Blair he needs to do something, recently Sharon has been out of order and both arafat and sharon should be replaced, what i can't stand is that blair has already shown in the past he's on Palestine's side by meeting arafat 15 times in 4 years yet still he doesn't do much and when him and bush are together, he'll stay silent, it's so sad.. at least he's not my leader.. that bugger mcconnell is .. although blair is deep down i still see Jack the pratt as my leader more than blair.

I dont think you can say politics and sport dont mix when south africa was outcast for years, Isreal is justified in bombing the palestinians because of americas war on terrorism (not my opinion) and no matter how much the european community or even the UN stands up to Isreal, america are there with their full support, americas foreign policy jumped up and bit their arse last september and they still haven't learned a thing.
we shouldn't play them, we should show our disgust at any type of aggression........I think all the love we show the Icelandic ladies in october should turn the tide in the worlds current climate

Play the game.........if anyone wants to protest then go and make your voice heard / banner seen etc.
However don`t forget the protest would be against the Israeli government and NOT the players or supporters.
In the past we have played Argentina - mass executions in football stadiums , Chile (in Chile) mass executions in football stadiums, Russia etc.
Football has to stay seperate from politics

Maybe we should sack Berti and refuse to play Germany, after all they started WW2? Croatia weren't exactly lily white in the Balkan war either, I didn't hear anyone calling for us not to play them? The USA, we can't play them, they execute people, some of them innocent as well.
......just play the game.....

Spot on Bazman, and weekevie too.
They went too far, no doubt, Israel the other day, and to be quite honest they've been going too far now for quite some time. Clearly they have to be reigned in.
This is a race of people, however, who have lived for thousands of years surrounded on all sides by people utterly committed to their compete destruction. By comparison our history with England amounts to a few minor skirmishes. We cannot possibly begin to understand the historical context within which these events are taking place.
That said, clearly it has to be made clear to them that they cannot carry on like that. Nothing, but nothing, can justify the slaughter of children.
I'd still keep football out of it though, because like some others have said, where do you draw the line?

Yer right andy of course, they may have gone too far but how would we feel having our people blown up at bustops, on buses, in pubs, schools - I think maybe with just a little less restraint.
Correct, they are surrounded by 50 million people who would not mind sacrificing millions to remove Israel from the face of the earth.
They have tried all out assaults and been beaten every time.
I agree that the palestinians deserve their place in the world, which they have been given, but they are led by a despot who wants it all.
Having said that, this has nothing to do with football and if there are to be protests against the Israeli government, the Palestinians deserve an equall amount.
As I said before, let us forget the politics and enjoy the football and welcome our guests wherever they are from.

Fresh ideas |
Palestinians could have had a share in 1948 but they thought it would be much better to drive the Jews into the sea, with the help of every other Arab nation in the region. They got their a**e kicked and now want us to bail them out. If they hadn't gone to war in 1948 they would have had more territory than they are currently squabbling over. You lose a war and you lose land. It's a fact of life or can we get Berwick back? And although you cannot condone civilian casualties Sharon is at least striking at military targets unlike you're friendly Hamas martyr who knows fine well it's not military or civilian but just plain old Jews, any Jews, he/she is after.

Israel have flouted UN resolution after resolution for 30 years about giving the Palestinians a state. All they have to do is conform to the resolutions. The current climate should be seen in its historical context. In the early 80s Shiron committed murderous atrocities. The solution is the Palestinian state which Israel refuses to grant them.
As to whether we play them or not in the scheme of things I don't think it matters that much although idealogically if we were to not play teams on moral grounds then Israel would be high on the list IMO. Trouble is the inconsistency of the UK government's position on Israel where they are lapdogs to USA instead of forcing USA to make Israel move. USA themselves don't put too much pressure on them coz of the Jewish Lobby in the States, the foothold it gives them in the middle east and spmeone else buys their arms. I can hardly imagine SFA saying no when the UK government cosies up to them.

Lot of Israili propaganda finding its way on to the board here. The history of the Jews and the state of Israil are 2 different things.
Anyway, as a nation we can make peaceful protest through sport. It is an effective sanction on another state.
Imagining that sport and politics do not mix is simplistic. The Jews in Israel should look to what happened to the European Jews and ask "why are we doing the same thing?"

Mmmmm, the fact that someone so new to the board comes up with a subject like this does suggest we are being set up for comments for the papers..
Then again, maybe I am wrong.

I don't quite see what not playing the game will do. If people never played against a country who had commited some inhumane act against another, there would be no sport at all.
Yes the situation out there is awful, but it is hardly the under 21 national football teams fault. Why should they be prevented from playing because of actions of their government?
For most of them it will be nice to get away from it all for a while.

don't want to get involved in any arguements here as I can see faults on both sides in what is happening in the Middle East but I do object strongly to Sonny's comments about "Lot of Israili propaganda finding its way on to the board here. The history of the Jews and the state of Israil are 2 different things."
Sonny because people may have feelings which do not agree with yours to state that they are propagandists for Israel is pash. Have you actually visited either country - I have worked in Israel in the past three years and I would like just to state that a lot of Palestinians and Israelis actually do get along, but just as has happened in many countries around the world the exteremists on both sides are quite happy to see innocent people murdered to further their aims. To then state that the history of Jews and the creation of the state of Israel are 2 different things shows a lack of naivete in the extreme. The creation of the Israeli state had a lot to do with the history of Jews.
