would anyone object to a £5 fee to register a name?

Sunshine appeal eould benefit and trolling would be reduced.

For those who didnt read the original post, i dont want AOB deleted for good, just wanted it as an experemant to see if it would cut out the sniping

Would trolling really be reduced, how would you legislate for that? People would just register names and not pay, unless it could be set up some way, don't know the ins and outs. Don't like the idea personally, because I'd like to think that if I came across a board like this I wouldn't have to fork out a fiver to have the priviledge of posting on it. It would put people off straight away. (Although I suppose that would be beneficial for some of the old guard who don't like the rise in new-comers.) Most people already contribute to the SA in plenty of other ways.

Me neither, in fact I'm SO zany I have a sign above my desk that says

Everyone p*sses themselves when they see it.

(The above is not true BTW)

Perthshirebell, just ignore the crap you want to ignore - don't rise to it.

Do you wear novelty ties though?

No, but today I was wearing my Scotland Travel Club tie.  Most folk on here won't know they exist cause they're part-timers who jumped on the bandwagon after the STC stopped dishing them out.

and just in case anyone missed that..........

PerthshireBell - it's the middle of July, i.e. the silly season. Nothing interesting happens in the summer, least of all football-wise. I think you're being a bit of a div, to quote Derek Trotter.

The idea of a charge to join has been brought up and discussed before and im sure the outcome was no.  Someone else would just start another board where you dont have to pay and the clique would move.

I think AOB is a great section, its full of completely irrellevent tripe so we can have a laugh.  If the section wasnt there the threads would end up elsewhere or board activity would reduce.

I dont want to start a massive debate about this (so ill slip it into this thread, sort of related)  how about having a club teams thread.  That way people who dont visit their own clubs message boards can discuss topics on here in a seperate forum unstead of clogging up AOB.

Furfuxake. Taking yourself too serious there PB fella.

You cannae talk Jock all the time, considering we only play 5-6 games on average a year. There would hardly be a point of the TAMB otherwise.

Anyhoo, its one of the main reasons I tune in here and its a good larf.

AOB is good and has it's uses to keep stuff in away from General - whether is pis* threads with nothing to do with Scotland Football team or Scottish football related topics but not "worthy" of General forum e.g. Kenny Miller's got new frilly underpants.
What gets my goat is people starting threads in General which are pure trivia . General is meant to be "Topics Of General Tartan Army Importance Only " yet many TAMBers (who have been on TAMB long enough to know better) still post these type of threads in General out of laziness or to get everyone to read it. The key word (for me) is IMPORTANCE . Put it in AOB where it belongs.
I don't log on as much now so I go to General to find out stuff about the Scottish Team (not to read about Berti's divorce etc - not a dig to whoever started that thread BTW, just an example).
If I want info on Germany game I go to that forum , etc, etc. That should work well but doesn't due to all the threads in wrong forums. This is not a dig at moderators as they shouldn't have to move stuff in first place - if it was originally placed in correct section by it's "author".
But where do you draw the line for what IS relevant to General and what should be in AOB etc. Allot of threads appear in General just because it's about a player who is Scottish e.g. a 16 year old having one good game in some reserves - should that be in AOB or is it DIRECTLY relevant to Scotland team ? Again, where do you draw the line ? I'd put it in AOB because it's not important or relevant enough (for now). For people who log on occasionally and want to find current Scotland info the General Forum should be quick and easy way to find this info, but is often isn't these days. Don't read it or ignore is fine for AOB threads but in General you still have to wade through all the irrelevant ones to find those you want. Cut them out in first place (by using AOB etc) and it becomes easier.

Let's not get rid of AOB but try and use the Forums correctly

I'll get off my high-horse now , pick up my toys and crawl back under by fringo stone

As part of my rant I recently emailed Mirza with similar views (don't know if you got this Mirza?) - some of it below (kind repeats my post above):

As many people of the TAMB often point out, there is often allot of threads/posts that are in wrong forums or are hijacked and need to be moved.
What does General Forum now actually mean these days (Topics Of General Tartan Army Importance Only)?
For me it's about Scotland players, games, selections, squad announcements etc etc . - no more, no less. This would mean anyone logging in could find the relevant info quite quickly. It would also mean that at times there wouldn't be much posted there (if posted in correct forum). This would be good , as that's what it's there for - relevant, important info only.
Threads about e.g. songs etc  - which are TA related should be in AOB - they of interest but not important (more like banter, chat).
These days it seems like anything with "Scotland" or "TA" mentioned goes in General.
Other serious and  important topics go in General and stay there out of respect e.g. Update on Raymond , which is fair enough and well placed IMO.

That's a good point fringo and worthy of a new thread all of its own...

And while we're at it, I'd keep the travel forums for travel stuff. ie. Squads, match reports, analysis etc. should be in general - cos its football related.

Hi Ally - will I now have to change my name to fringopylae if people start agreeing with me

I do agree with Travel etc - although sometimes there's a cross over (grey area).

AOB Is the place for me, I get a good laugh at most the stuff, only point I would make is Keep religion / faiths out of it also politics, as these are personal issues, AOB should be pub banter, there have been some great posts ( emarassing myself here, not usualy one for patting my own back, and some pash ones ( but Richie is still a young lad he will improve) and some classics like SBD zipperising his nob.
So AOB must stay if you don't like it don't visit.
As for individual teams... how long before followers of others dropped in and started abusing these?

Wi hawkey here.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.  But thone thread about contradictions in the bible was embarrasing as it got so personal.  Some people do not respect the beliefs of others.

I am all for Politics, bigotry and religion and other stuff being chatted about, so long as folk think before they put finger to keyboard.

Kevink should gtf though.

The £5 fee sounds good in principal but for reasons mentioned, ie unworkable, rival board pinchin all the members, I wouldna bother.

At the moment I don`t think it would be easy to have changes that involve a lot of hassle for whoever is administering the Board.

Maybe we all need to try to enjoy the relative freedom of the Board and ignore the unpleasant stuff but post a bit more responsibly? (not a new suggestion I know)

Anything more complicated than that will give Mirza an even bigger headache.

I am very guilty of knee-jerk reactions to stuff on here
which is not helpful in the least so I`m going to try and behave from now on

However................... anyone slagging Mirza even in the teeniest way will be hunted down and get their knuckles (all of them) broken

Talks too much

I've not been on here very long, dont really know alot about football, but I'm learning and have enjoyed alot of the threads and chatted to some great people on here.

IMO I dont see a need to charge for membership if people use the stuff that's between their ears before responding to an obviously procative thread. Trouble makers thrive on attention..dont give them any and they'll soon get bored and move on...oh yea and if you do post when you're pashed.........you know who you are!!...then at least check the damage the next day and apologise!!!!
