Had a sneak preview of the new Metallica album (St Anger) last night. Absolutley awesome. It's like Load and Reload never happened. Back ti the old style Metallica. Heavy and fast.

Didn't know G'n'R had a new album coming out. What's their line up? If its just Axl and and bunch of session guys I doubt I'll be interested.

St Anger comes oot on the 10th June. As well as the cd, you also get a free DVD with it as well. It's them playing all the new songs live in the studio. Pretty good value.

I think g'n'r is just axl and some guys, but the rest of the band, Slash, etc have gotten together and formed another band and they're putting something out soon too...

It was definitely Hetfield and Ulrichs band. Jason never got a chance to show what he could do on the song writing front at all. With a little less ego and a bit more team work Metallica would have been a lot better.
Kernie you're being nostalgic about Cliff. Was he a better bass player? To be perfectly honest I don't think I could actually hear a bass line in "Kill 'Em All" if I spent ten years trying. It's just a 500mph wall of noise. Fantastic...

The mixing on the 80s albums was terrible so you couldn't hear much of Cliff either, but what you could hear (mainly the lead bass parts on Orion, Call of Ktulu etc) was amazing.
Plus he was an excellent composer - look at all the writing credits he got. Whatever the reason, Newsted never gave the band that extra depth Cliff did.

Yeah but Jason was much cuter...
Difficult to hear Cliff as has been said but Jason's sound is ace IMO....
Yeah and wouldn't it be good if they could do something with the sound on those earlier albums.

First time I saw Metallica was Donington 85 or 86 cannae mind whit year it was. Being a huge fan o Cliff and knew that he wore big baggy flares (unheard of in those mid 80's stretch jeans era) I decided to pay homage to the "Windmill". Pinched a pair o ma auld mans most flareiest jeans (aboot 2ft wide at the bottom) carted then aw the way doon tae Donington. Walked aboot wi these jeans for hoors waiting ti lob them oan the stage as soon as Cliff walked on. On they came threw the jeans up and Cliff picked them up and put them doon beside his amp. I just wonder if he ever wore them. Auld man wisnae too chuffed that he couldnae find his jeans mind.
