Different fer us cos they dinnae hate us and we wouldnae be in that situation in the first place, really is pathetic, that to us would be a national embarassment (a bit like my spelling) but for e*****d it's just part and parcel of their support so is largely ignored.
If we were in that position I wouldn't go, cos I'd be too feart ae gettin stabbed but as I say, we wouldnae be in that position in the first place.

Its OK, the Governments esteemed Sports Ministers Richard Caborn has ensured that there will be no chance of trouble as he has successfully persuaded Sky to allow a terrestial channel to show a delayed broadcast of the game to stop fans travelling, phew, thats that sorted then F*cking erse.
***IF*** Scotland were ever in that situation ie. history of hooliganism, bad blood between us and the Turks, trouble at the home game etc etc. then I would stay at home.

if we keep priding ourselves on the fact that we are the"best supporters in the world" would we still have that tag if we disobeyed the SFA & governments request that we don`t travel to a particular game, if we were in those circumstances ???
personally, I would not go to Turkey for such an important match,
It`s one thing saying we don`t cause trouble and are friendly and get on with the locals and so on, but, I think it would be a different kettle of fish if we went to Turkey and knocked them out of a tournament

Totally agree with MNC.
I do feel for the majority of decent supporters in England who want to go and watch their country but have been denied this opportunity because of a few hundred mindless idiots. I'm sure if any of us were in the same situation we would feel aggrevieved about the whole situation.
I wouldn't be surprised, though, if there is a bit of trouble in Turkey, as it would certainly seem that there are a few English supporters who are defying the advice of the FA and are travelling to Istanbul judging by the fact that all flights from Istanbul to London are full on the Sunday.

I think we're being naive if we think that the Turks make any distinction between us and the English. We could find ourselves in some potentially difficult situations if we were to go over there. Here's hoping we don't get them in the play offs.

I feel for the genuine english fans who are unable to go and have the decency to respect the wishes of their FA. However, no matter what obstacles the FA and the Turks put in place it will not stop those mindless idiots intent on violence travelling to Turkey.
I wonder how many of those defying the FA were also in Macedonia, where the FA sold no tickets and advised against travel.
Was this not an opportunity for them to weed out the hardcore element?
Personally I would not fancy travellin out to an international in Turkey, with or without the say so of the SFA.

I honestly don't think hooligans would have gone anyway, whichever country they're from.
Big difference with anyone looking for a bit of fisticuffs and scrapping against folk who consider knives as a fair weapon.

regardless of whether we have a good relationship with them,
would you go to Turkey for a play-off in November?
I would seriously consider no as I believe their fans to be sc*m and way worse than Ingerland.

MCT - I don't subscribe to your thoughts. I think that the idiots would travel as they wouldn't be adverse to using those weapons either. Given the ease of buying knives and other such weapons in Turkey (and most european countries) it would be easy for the idiots to have a go at anybody who gets in the way.

Opinionated Wind Bag |
Think we're basing this too much on the mainly English medias reaction following the Leeds murders, and who seem to be doing their best to encourage trouble when Enlgand play there next month. Blackburn played there this week and seemed to have no problems.
I have been to 2 Turkey games (admittedly not in Turkey) and never had any problem and Scottish clubs (Rangers, Dundee United I think) have played there without difficulty. A Rangers fan who went said they do know the difference between Scots and English for what that is worth, although as per above Blackburn didnt seem to have any problems here - I don't think I would have a problem going to Turkey in a play off although it may be advisable not to imbibe too heavily on this occasion.

Take a bow that man....Turkish fans are FAR worse than the English fans ever were and are likely to be in the future.
Also, all this p*sh about English fans travelling to Turkey regardless, willnae happen IMO.Any Englishman that do travel should be certified insane and locked up.Just the papers sensationalising things as per usual.

Mick, I'm sure there would be some, but your average hooligan, be it at club or international level is your pack animal, and only hard when he's got 1000 of his mates behind him, i.e. not as hard or as 'mental' as he likes to make out. They're the type who'll like nothing better to go home with a black eye as a war wound but would think 'f**k that' to coming home with a stab wound after a month (and 5 pints of turkish blood) in a Turkish hospital.
The real nutters who would use a blade or a knife are the minority of the minority.
As someone else said, even if they did distinguish between us and England, I still wouldn't like to be in Istanbul should we knock them out of a tournament.

I would prefer if we played in Istanbul first, I would however seek local advice (already working on it) before heading out and I would seriously consider wearing normal clothes unless in a large group of TA and certainly if we knock Turkey in there own backyard I would think twice before heading to any pub.

Valid points MCT, but I don't think you average Saturday hooligan is going to travel to these games. The idiots that travel (if any) are more likely to be the more hardcore element who would not baulk at using any sort of weapon. The only thing that may stop them is the thought of taking a bullet from some mad Turks gun, which could well be possibility.

I'm sure the Turkish authorities, and by default the fans, would be made well aware by the SFA of the very notable differences between the Scots and the English fans. But even if the Turks accepted the differences and left their aggression and hostility on their flying carpets in front of the fireplace, there might still be trouble of a different kind.
How many TA guys have grabbed a girlie when lagered-up and had a wee laugh and joke with her? Or flashed their arse in public? Most of us probably. Don't think the Turkish men would see the funny side of that as many of them don't have the same moral or ethical values as the average bevied TA footsoldier on tour.
