Well it was a throwaway remark really - but now I come to think of it, you could quite easily compare England's performances in the World Cup/Euro champs to Man Utd in Europe. Their supporters consistently expect them to progress further than they actually do, they are often shown up in terms of tactical and technical ability and they are often knocked out by sides who are just that extra class above.
The bit that is really laughable is that I actually paid Scotland the enormous compliment of comparing them to Man City in their Div 2 days.
Leigh RMI would have been a fairer comparison.

I wasn't really having a sly dig, I was telling it like it is. :nevermind:
I don't mind asymmetric rivalry, jeering and taunting - it's good for the soul.
But if Scotland were anywhere near as good as they were in the 70s and 80s - when I think you actually underachieved given the quality of your players - then the rivalry would be a bit more fun and a bit less poignant.

What has happened to you? You didn't used to be so intransigent or am I looking back with rose tinted glasses? But this is the second time in a week that you have skipped key points.
Surely you (and in fact Kernie) are smart enough to be able to understand jcfc argument and see why this situation exists even if you like me think its pointless?? Surely its not hard to understand why the overshadowed feel differently? Being a CUFC fan i would have thought you would get it, although I do understand Kernie the glory hunters problem.... Its like you just want to carry on the argument these days rather than ever accept any points made. Then again i suppose thats why you are here.... Its just not like the good old days when I was drawing knives on you....
BTW if "sly dig" was the wrong terminology I do apologies. I was trying to be lighthearted and indeed was not even making a serious point...

The fundemental difference is that after winning the European Cup in 1968, Manchester United did it again in 1999. They therefore do not have to constantly crow to all and sundry that they won the tournament in the 60s.

Yeah, I suppose I came over more pompous than I intended. I can of course understand the reason for the rivalry - and of course take great pleasure in it myself - but there are times when it does just seem desperate, that's all.
Anyway, please don't get the knives out as I rely on you for support far too often these days
