but how does going in small numbers i.e family holiday compare with a large number for a football game.
Turkey has a bad reputation but we have good reputation & think this could maybe work in our favour as to a trouble-free game.
Not condemning the murder of the 2 Leeds boys but there is nothing to suggest they werent hooligans they might have been wrong place wrong time but at same time you seen images on tv of clashes so they could have been involved. For leeds v Galatassaray there was people looking for fight & got one & regretted it.
At same time though did The Rangers V Galatassaray game not go without trouble apart from wee thing at airport saying welcome to Hell.
Aye and that was on the way back into Glasgow

Something to say |
On balance, probably not.
From a footballing point of view, it would be fantastic. I have seen Turkey quite a few times at various tournaments and the atmosphere has always been amazing. I was at the Belgium v Turkey game at Euro 2000 where we were right above the Turkey fans. There was a Turk at the front with a megaphone who stood with his back to the game for the whole game co-ordinating all the singing and waving.
However, the only trouble I saw was at Euro 2000 was at this game and also at Sweden v Turkey. Culturally, they do have a different attitude to drinking and women (not necessarily anything wrong with that!) but they could easily take offence if 3000 TA take over there bars, get drunk and chat up their women. That does happen - I have seen it myself! And if it does kick off, it will be a wee bit hard to blend in with the crowd in a kilt.

What a stupid, contemptible post. 'Nothing to suggest they werent [sic] hooligans'? What were they meant to do? Walk around with big sandwich boards with 'we are not hooligans' on them?
There's nothing to suggest they weren't diamond smugglers and slave traders either, but that's not the way justice works in this country.
They were murdered and that's that. The story about their disprespecting the Turkish flag was a fabrication.

Excellent point BW, what play-off?.
I would go, I honestly think I'd go anywhere to follow Scotland including Iraq (aslong as Saddam was suspended).
Turkey would probably be the same as everywhere else, expect us to be like our neighbours but then realise very quickly that we are totally different.

Fresh ideas |
Kernaghan - are you for real? Are you seriously trying to suggest that the Scots and English are not different (and in particular their travelling football supports)??????
As for the previous post re Turkey you will not the use of the term "not trying to condone ....". The point being made was who says the two lads were or weren't causing trouble prior to the incident? Were you there K? I have heard nothing since that incident to convince me in either direction - I do not know if they were trouble makers or not? Like the previous poster I also believe that their death is unjustified in either case.... Take yer blinkers off min!

The opinion of the Irish manager of an Irish bar I was in whilst in Istanbul (Feb this year) was very much that the Leeds fans had been winding people up all evening, and were sat in the same bar when the knifeman came in.
He was also very worried about the England game (although looking forward to the takings), and was already thinking about security. Obviously this was well before the ticket decision was taken.
In all seriousness, having been there FOR FOOTBALL (albeit just a B game), I would have no reservations whatsoever about going back. And besides, the more people who wouldn't go, the better for those who do, as it will make it easier for us to get tickets!!!

Er... no. I was suggesting that we are not 'totally' different... you angels we hooligans, that kind of tired old horseshit.
You have neds just the same as we do, the only difference is they seem to have lost interest in following your national team (understandable really) and instead trail around after the Old Firm.
The vast majority of the English support is just as fun-loving and well-behaved as the majority of the Scottish support, not that you'd know it from listening to the opinions of a lot of Scottish people.

Kernie, you must have missed this bit - it was in brackets...
"...in particular their travelling football supports..."
You quite rightly pointed out that the Scottish neds don't follow Scotland, which means (I think) that you actually agree with Len Ganley Stance's point.

Just to add some fuel to the fire,
I was in Disneyland Paris last year. (not a football tournament)
And some English lads came in, (I am assuming they were English, due to their accent and choice of T - Shirt)
No bairns or wifes with them ( at that moment)
It looked as though they had just arrived from the Pub.
The point is, one of them was Black affronted and was going around apologising for his mates shouting, singing and general behaviour. Your reputation manages to offend, even in a kids theme park.

Sorry but this sort of post is just ridiculous. Again, you're taking the simplistic (and completely wrong ) view that, just because you have seen a bunch of English people acting like idiots, that is somehow conclusive proof that all English are drunken troublemakers whilst all Scots are fun-loving angels.
Or are you trying to claim that you've never seen a Scottish person whose behaviour disgusted you?
Here's an example - on my way back from Cambridge's game at Huddersfield on Saturday, I was accosted by a foul-smelling old Scottish tramp wearing a Celtic top who was making his way round Kings X begging for money and generally making a nuisance of himself. On the basis of this single isolated incident, am I justified in saying that your reputation for being a nation of drunken incontinent beggars is clearly 100% deserved?

Why bother, turkey are going to win the group.
This would be the same Turkey who have never managed to score a goal against England, have never beaten a top-10 ranked team and who lost 2-0 to England back in April?
Better get some money on them quick.

CUFC - the thing is - If Scotland do get a play off ( and its a big if...) against Turkey - we will get an allocation & we will be able go & probably with the minimum of bother. How large is Englands allocation for the away leg against Turkey ?

What's that supposed to prove?
The fact that we are not taking our allocation for Turkey is effectively an indictment of the Turkish fans, police and FA, far more so than of the English. We're not taking fans there because the Turkish authorities cannot guarantee our safety, not because of any trouble we might cause.
I sincerely hope you don't get Turkey in the play-off and I also hope that, if you do, there is absolutely no trouble.
But the fact remains that a culture of violence surrounds the Turkish national team's fans, a culture which is actively encouraged by their FA, media and even players. They are by far the worst fans in Europe and have been for some time now. Even if we were taking our allocation, there is no way I would go to Turkey to watch England play. It's pretty much the only place where I would be too scared to travel to.
